Summary: Responsible for providing metallurgical and processing support to internal Tactair customers and externally to customers, suppliers and test laboratories. To this end, interface with designers, manufacturers, engineers, lab technicians, buyers, and suppliers. Apply analytical skills to the resolution of complex engineering and quality problems.
Ensure materials and process specifications are current and include timely incorporation of changes. Review customer-engineering specifications and take appropriate action to ensure compliance.
Provide approvals for engineering drawings, lab reports, in house process technique documents, manufacturing process planning, forging manufacturing plans and first article inspections.
Evaluate process techniques and provide technical support to suppliers; evaluate material deviations and substitutions in conjunction with stress engineering and provide technical guidance to Procurement and Quality on the approval and auditing of suppliers.
Oversee heat treat treatment process for steel and aluminum alloys; failure analyses and investigations as necessary.
Oversee, and in some case perform metallurgical testing and investigations and trouble shooting of material related problems.
Advise design and manufacturing engineers and external suppliers on material selection issues.
Participate in design reviews and provide input for company design methodologies.
BS Degree in Metallurgy, Material Science, or Chemical Engineering. BS in Mechanical Engineering with appropriate materials background will be considered.
10+ years of experience in the aerospace industry, with an emphasis on materials and processes to include aluminum alloys, stainless steel, castings and forgings.
Excellent writing and oral presentation skills.
Demonstrated teamwork skills, the ability to work across disciplines.
