Materials Engineer with experience in polymer science/engineering responsible for the research, evaluation, selection, testing and analysis of non-metallic and composite materials used in Aerospace and Defense programs.
Candidate will be a member of a Materials & Processes team with 12 engineers & technicians. The team's laboratory contains state-of-the art analysis & test equipment including VP-SEM, FTIR, XRF, IC, TMA, DSC, DMA, UV-VIS, INSTRON, FIB, EDS, etc.
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
Working with design teams in the selection, evaluation, and application of polymeric materials to components and assemblies
Developing manufacturing processes for structural/non-structural bonding, coating, potting and molding applications as well as testing material performance and performing failure analysis.
Testing includes destructive and non-destructive evaluation of mechanical strength and chemical, thermal, and electrical properties.
Generating reports of completed work for dissemination to program/design teams, management and Harris customers
Qualifications:
Minimum MS degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering with 5 years related experience
Position requires knowledge of the relationship between structure and properties of polymers and/or composite materials.
Must have materials testing experience and failure analysis techniques and environmental screening.
Ideal candidate has 5 years experience working in a manufacturing environment with materials used in harsh environment applications (i.e. Defense & Aerospace).
Requires MS Office Suite and technical writing experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
Candidate must be willing to perform hands-on work in the lab and be effective in directing technicians and junior engineers in the execution of materials analysis / process development tasks.
Must be able to work in a team environment with good communication skills.
Must be able to effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
