Position Summary:
Mechanical Engineers design product enhancements, troubleshoot issues with core products, work with suppliers & manufacturing to solve design issues, and provide support as needed to sales, marketing, and manufacturing departments. Emerson Process Management is a leader in helping businesses automate and improve their production and processing. Fisher’s coordinated multidisciplinary product design effort leads the competition by providing key products to solve customer’s most difficult problems. Mechanical Engineers are specifically responsible to understand product requirements, design and verify product modifications to meet requirements, develop proof testing, and support manufacturing.
Essential Job Functions:
Design mechanical systems, assemblies and component parts to meet requirements
Troubleshoot existing product design and manufacturing issues and formulate solutions
Design and implement design changes to existing products to improve reliability, solve manufacturing issues, and reduce cost
Oversee prototype implementation of a design
Develop test strategy and plans to verify product design changes.
Perform mechanical design verification from sub-assembly through full assembly levels, interpret results and provide ongoing direction for design improvement
Evaluate product reliability including use of failure modes and effects analysis for mechanical designs
Conduct peer reviews of mechanical designs
Develop and maintain engineering documentation and manufacturing procedures.
Follow departmental and company procedures pertaining to design process and documentation
Interact and communicate effectively with global engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers
Evaluate non-conforming components
Support product hazardous area third approvals process
Review and approve mechanical design changes
Assist with other project activities as required
Education / Experience Required:
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
Required Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
Understanding of mechanical systems that incorporate pneumatic, electrical, and electronic components
2D/3D CAD design capability.
Working knowledge of test equipment and procedures including force testers, gauges, etc.
Analytical problem solving and decision-making skills
Able to take incomplete ideas and requirements and develop creative solutions with a high degree of initiative.
Ability to contribute in a global team environment solving engineering challenges
Strong planning and organizing skills
Good verbal and written English language communication skills
Preferred Knowledge / Experience:
Die-casting, injection molding, machining, and stamping processes.
Materials; metals, plastics, and elastomers.
Experience with mechanical/pneumatic/electronic systems and system design demonstrated by experimental, theoretical, and design work.
Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
Explosion-proof design practices and standards for hazardous area installation in the process control industry
Magnetic systems
