Job Description | ACS, an internationally integrated design and construction services provider, specializing in the delivery of innovative and integrated facility, equipment, and systems solutions, has an opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join our office in Madison, Wisconsin. The individual will perform mechanical engineering responsibilities for a variety of laboratory, process and industrial projects. This position offers in-depth experience for the chosen candidate to further their engineering and project management related skills.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
•Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
•Mechanical contractor and/or internship experience would be a plus but not required.
•Excellent engineering skills including thermodynamics and fluid systems, water, steam, gas, refrigeration and air courses.
•Excellent technical computer skills, using primarily MS Office.
•Ability to travel to customer facilities for design meetings, equipment installation supervision and commissioning. Travel requirements are project specific but may require multiple weeks of travel with duration at times of 2 weeks on site.
•Work to meet client deadlines including balancing multiple priorities and responding to changes in deadline, scope and design as they occur.
•Excellent communication and technical writing skills required.
•Must have the following personal skills and characteristics: Problem solving skills, strong organizational and time management skills, willingness to accept responsibility, team player, takes initiative to improve personal skills, ability to work effectively with all internal and external levels and groups.
Essential job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Planning and Design Phases
•Assist proposals, cost estimates and schedules for mechanical systems and commissioning.
•Perform constructability review - installation, phasing, space, utility requirements.
•Perform quality review - design criteria, maintenance, balance/control, diversity/capacity.
•Work with multiple engineering disciplines.
Procurement and Construction Phases
•Assist in prequalifying, soliciting, analyzing, and reporting on equipment quotations, contractor bids, proposals, and technical submissions.
•Create scopes of work, contracts, and purchase orders.
•Regular visits to the jobsite, to oversee field contractor activities to ensure quality and schedule and for troubleshooting.
•Assist in the submittal review process and deliveries, while maintaining quality subcontractor and vendor relationships.
•Generate RFI responses and coordinate work between trades.
Commissioning and Training Phase
•Assist in the air and water side testing and balancing.
•Coordinate onsite startup and validation of equipment.
•Generate pressure and leak testing procedures and pre-functional check lists.
•Assist with functional performance tests, capacity tests and acceptance tests and provide final reports.
•Coordinate repair/troubleshooting of equipment, controls, and facility and process systems.
•Create operation and maintenance manuals, preventative maintenance plan and training plan and execute training for installed systems for Owner’s staff.
The individual for this position will gain hands-on experience as well as a broad based perspective of the roles and responsibilities of Mechanical Engineer - Facility Systems by learning these skills under the supervision of a Lead Mechanical Engineer.
