Job Description:
Develops and applies advanced mechanical engineering design methods, theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of complex and advanced technical problems.
Plans, conducts, technically directs and evaluates projects or major phases of significant projects. Analyzes, evaluates and plans method of approach and organizes means to achieve solution of complex technical problems. Conducts investigations and tests of considerable complexity. Reviews literature, patents and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects. Recommends corrections in technical applications and analyses. Provides technical consultation to other organizations. Coordinates the efforts of engineers and technical support staff. May provide work leadership for lower level employees.
Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience. Requires 10 or more years of applicable progressively complex Mechanical Engineering experience.
Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Understanding of the practical application of engineering science and technology. Experience with analytical and CAD software. Requires knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.

Position Scope and Responsibilities
Experienced Metallurgist or Material Science Engineer to collaborate with our suppliers and business units to define, design, and source materials for HVAC and Refrigeration equipment. As the principal Metallurgist of the component engineering team, you will lead the material selection, evaluation, and analysis to achieve performance, reliability, and cost targets. Identify new material technologies that meet or exceed the targets and evaluate existing materials for continuous improvement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the material selection (ferrous and non ferrous, plastics etc..) to achieve performance, reliability and cost targets
Conduct characterization studies to define critical performance features
Perform design FMEAs to identify critical failure modes and recommend improvements for product reliability.
Develop reliability / design verification plans for each new material based on product design requirements and reliability goals.
Conduct verification and reliability testing on subsystems and components.
Conduct failure analysis of components to identify root cause.
Prioritizing and completing tasks to meet deadlines
Providing design input to improve product reliability when necessary
Statistical data analysis to provide risk assessments of a design
Preparing concise and detailed test plans and test reports
Interacting with a wide variety of individuals and teams to communicate results. Lead and provide guidance in the development of product and materials specifications for prototypes and verification testing protocols.
Coordinate verification testing activities.
Actively participate in the investigation of technological advancements or new technologies and provide conceptual or practical applications for these technologies within the Lennox business units
Provide sustaining engineering support of existing products. Prepare and coordinates verification and validation activities during investigation and design change activities.
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
In-depth knowledge of metallurgy (ferrous and non ferrous alloys), processing, corrosion, tribology, and coatings.
Working knowledge of non-metal materials, blending, molding, and machining
Experience with materials testing (physical and analytical) and ability to interpret results to R&D and Business Units.
Understanding of product reliability goals, reliability growth, and reliability prediction
Ability to interpret, analyze, and present technical information using practical judgment.
Capable of functioning effectively in a team environment.
Strong communication and presentation skills
Demonstrated problem solving skills.
Ability to organize and manage concurrent activities.
Knowledge of advanced data gathering and analysis techniques, including statistical analysis for reliability management.
Knowledge of standard quality and reliability tools such as FMEA (Failure Modes Effect Analysis), Weibull Analysis, Root Cause Analysis, and Statistics.
Requires strong failure analysis, problem solving, analytical, and reporting skills.
PERSONAL SKILL SET
PhD degree with a minimum 3 years experience or a Masters degree in Metallurgy with a minimum seven years experience.
