The Metallurgist/Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for performing the following duties:

Trains and supervises Metallurgical technicians in preparing of samples such as polishing, etching, or tensile testing, and designates area of sample where microscopic or macroscopic examination is to be made

Performs microscopic examinations on samples to determine metallographic characteristics such as microstructure, porosity, homogeneity, cleanliness, heat treat response, etc

Responsible for Heat Treating process, includes daily monitoring, SAT, TUS and performs CQI9 self survey.

Interprets finding and prepares drawings, charts, and graphs for inclusion in report for references or instruction purposes. Drafts reports regarding findings, conclusions, and recommendations

Coordinates and participates in performing special tests, such as x-ray analysis, tensile testing, hardness, chemistry by spectrometer, burst testing, fluid displacement, etc

Oversees lab metallurgical testing and inspection, and ensures lab is well kept and maintained

Oversees and coordinates all Metrology functions, including gage calibration, gage R&R, dimensional measurements, capability studies, dock audits and receiving inspections.

Supervises metrologist associates in all metrology activities.

Prepares annual capital and operating budget for lab operation and meets approved budget guidelines

Ensures cast shop products meet all standards and requirements

Responsible for all Cast Shop quality related activities.

Participates on cast shop continuous improvement team

Trains associates on correct procedures for sample submission to laboratory and, as required, trains associates on the use of laboratory equipment to perform required testing.

Ensures compliance with all safety policies and procedures.

May be required to train others.

Review and approve supplier PPAPs for externally supplied products.

Requirements

Qualifications

Minimum of BS/BA in a related field of study.

Minimum of 3 years experience as a metallurgist, preferably in an aluminum casting environment.

Familiarity with laboratory metallography, spectroscopy, mechanical testing and metrology.
