Firth Rixson, a world leader in the Forging Industry, currently has an opportunity in the Engineering Department for an experienced Metallurgist.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Act as a technical contact for both internal and external customers.
•Develop, modify, improve, and troubleshoot the processes associated with the production of seamless rolled rings and other open-die forgings.
•Conduct metallurgical failure analysis and disposition for applicable customers, including generation of non-dimensional concessions for customer review.
•Maintain ownership of new part introduction (NPI) for applicable customers, including final review of qualification packages prior to customer review.
•Perform various Metallurgy/Engineering Department projects including planning, organizing data collection, and presentation.
•Initiate and control cost reduction projects to achieve targets established by Engineering Manager.
•Release hardware for production utilizing processes that are designed to meet or exceed customer technical (metallurgical and quality) requirements as specified on purchase orders, blueprints, specifications or other related documents.
•Review of new and revised technical (material, process, quality, etc) specifications, as necessary.
•Perform other special project work as directed by the Senior Management Team.
Job Requirements :
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Metallurgical Engineeringor related . A minimum of five years experience in metallurgical, engineering or other related field. Experience in the Aerospace forging using titanium and/or nickel based super alloys and strong working knowledge of Quality systems and specifications is required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must have excellent communication skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write clear and concise technical reports. Ability to make effective presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, and/or various public groups.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; Minitab
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
American Society of Metals (ASM) registration preferred.
Blackbelt or Greenbelt certification preferred. |
