Molding Manager

Job Description
Summary: Effectively manage and coordinate all activities related to the molding department. Provide supervision, oversight and guidance to all molding employees, including shift supervisors, set-up technicians and hourly molding operators to ensure products are manufactured efficiently, safely, within specifications and on-time. Work closely with Scheduling, Materials, and Secondary Operations personnel to manufacture a wide variety of plastics products by performing the following duties either personally or through subordinates.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Confer across internal functional lines and with customers if necessary to determine optimal processing parameters and manufacturing feasibility.

Troubleshoot and resolve complex production problems, initiate corrective actions involving modifications to set-ups, processing parameters, raw materials, or tooling.

Advise on tooling requirements, equipment purchases, and molding techniques to alleviate quality problems of products or equipment and for new product design considerations.

Procure required materials, supplies and tools; Participate in the preparation of departmental operating budgets and control spending both within those budgets and in response to evolving business conditions.

Prepare paperwork and maintain records related to department activities.

Monitor new developments in methods, materials and technology, promote their adoption as appropriate, and utilize education, training and mentoring as a means to develop organizational strength and provide continuous improvement leadership for all areas of responsibility.

Validate new molds and/or tooling through established procedures. Recommend modifications to molds/tooling. Install and / or supervise the installation of molds including cooling, robotics, auxiliary equipment and material in accordance with established criteria.

Supervise the activities of assigned shift leaders and other personnel engaged in the set-up
and operation of molding machines on manual, semi-automated, and automated cycles to control and maintain planned production schedules and product quality standards.

Recommend schedule adjustments as needed to optimize resource utilization.

Monitor work centers for proper operation, set-ups, and maintenance requirements. Ensure adherence to process standards (cycles, etc.) and efficiencies and submit requests for adjustments through ECO process.

Adjust process and troubleshoot molding issues as needed to ensure product quality and standard process efficiencies are maintained. Ensure accurate reporting of daily production, scrap, downtime and efficiencies.

Ensure that the department follows all Quality Operating Procedures.

Write performance reviews and administration of disciplinary action. Determine personnel needs, hire and train and review, and evaluate performance as required.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience- Bachelor degree or related experience equivalent with a minimum of 10 years of manufacturing or other closely related experience involving injection molding including a minimum of 3 years of management experience.

Certificates/Licenses- None required

Language Skills- Must possess very high language skills with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing pertaining to areas of responsibility as well as to the company's business as a whole. Must be able to read and make analytical use of quantitative data, financial reports and information related to the company's business or technology.

Math Skills- Must possess mathematical skills required to perform all math calculations and understand all math concepts as they relate to the specific job which may include (as required) algebra and geometry, statistics, accounting and financial calculations, etc.

Reasoning Skills- Often working with abstract variables, must be able to envision cause and effect; collect, comprehend and interpret complex information; establish facts, draw valid conclusions, create instructions and describe a forward vision. Must be capable of critical thinking.

Computer Skills- Moderately high skill level working with word processing, spreadsheets, etc. such as MS Office Suite software, use of the internet and a perfunctory knowledge of CAD and related file transfer formats.

Supervisory Skills- Directs and coordinates the work of multi-functional groups and deals with moderately complex employee issues. Takes responsibility for subordinates' activities and fosters a focus on quality. Effectively influences actions and opinions of others, accepts feedback and gives appropriate recognition. Provides regular performance feedback including recognition. Develops subordinates' skills and encourages growth. Develops workable implementation plans, communicates changes effectively, builds commitment and overcomes resistance, monitors transition and evaluates results.

Supervision Received- Work is performed under general direction working from policies and business objectives with little functional guidance.



Environment and Physical Demands:

Environment- Work is performed in a well lighted, air conditioned, light manufacturing environment. Noise level is low to moderate.

Physical Demands- Regularly required to talk and hear; sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel and crouch; use hands to handle and feel; reach with hands and arms including overhead. Required lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus..
