Position Description

Responsible for design and development of fractional horsepower PMDC and Prestolite motors; selection of the appropriate components; and confirmation that the project requirements and specifications are met in a timely and cost effective manner.

The position involves working directly with customers, suppliers, engineering leadership, program management, supply chain and other product team members to develop and qualify motors. Provide product, process and application engineering analysis and direct support to customers and manufacturing plants for division products.
Travel, including possible international travel 2 to 3 times per year (to Europe, China, Mexico, and Brazil).

Position Requirements

Demonstration of proficiency in successful project management and sufficient depth of technical expertise to handle major projects.

Apply basic engineering principles and analysis to the resolution of technical problems; perform development, design and analysis of new products; provide design validation testing for all new products; interpret design results and data; make independent judgments as to their validity.

Review, interpret and act on customer provided specifications and drawings and convert into divisional format; establish dimensional, mechanical and electrical performance criteria and parameters.

Establish and modify test limits and methods that adequately ensure product performance compliance.

Support marketing and field sales colleagues by providing and coordinating requests for quotes, application and design assistance and customer visits; provide customer or in-house training; provide technical data in support of division advertising or brochures.

Initiate and apply new engineering technologies and software for design; initiate and provide design support to other groups within engineering; review and validate the impact of suggested modifications to products; process Engineering Change Notices (ECN’s) and Deviations as required.

Evaluate and recommend component parts, materials and processes as related to improved product performance, quality and profitability; provide support for evaluation and selection of capital equipment.

Coordinate new designs and product engineering efforts with drafting, marketing, filed sales, manufacturing engineering and general management.
Interact with customers in a professional manner that reflects well on the company.
