This exciting work will include the design and development of laser systems that are field deployable in military and commercial environments. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with general understanding of optical engineering principles, fiber optics and the laser science. The candidate may have experience implementing optical designs in a lab environment under guidance/direction. The successful candidate may also have a general knowledge of standard test equipment such as oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers. A basic understanding of mechanical and/or electrical engineering principles is a plus.
Our Optical Engineer will:
Perform functions to develop, model, design and simulate optical systems.
Works with/designs various laser systems including fiber lasers, semiconductor lasers, diode pumped solid state lasers, etc.
Work in an optical lab to execute experiments and to validate design architectures.
Perform trade studies.
Apply their expertise to develop technical solutions to problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.
The individual will be expected to work collaboratively with other engineers as well as representatives from Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing and other disciplines. The candidate must be proficient with the use of personal computers including word processing and spreadsheets and in documenting work performed for review and archiving.

Basic Qualifications Ability to:
Demonstrate good oral, written and presentation capabilities.
Work under direction/guidance in a cross-functional organization.
Perform tasks within budget and on schedule.
Conduct basic laser and optical analysis using fundamental physics and engineering principles.
Assist in the design, set up and execution of optical lab experiments.
Evaluate experimental results to compare with theoretical predictions.
Desired skills Experience with optical fibers.
Use of lasers.
Familiarity with optical analysis tools such as ZEMAX and common engineering software such as LabView, MathCAD and MatLab.
Understanding the principles of optical modeling for stray light analysis, ray tracing and power loss analysis.
