Design optical and mechanical systems. Documentation of optomechanical components (fiber optics) and support the transition of technology into manufacturing. Design improvements and cost reduction are also important aspects of the position. Determine and resolve root causes of design related issues. Support proposal activities with mechanical design, recommend sourcing, materials costing and lead time recommendations. Deliver oral and written reports to project teams, broad audiences within R&D, as well as external conferences and publications.
BS or MS in Optics, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or other related disciplines. Minimum two years in design, development or engineering specializing in the opto-mechanical field. Previous fiber optics and metal stamping experience is preferred. Solid understanding of GD&T, 3D CAD software, NX/UG. Knowledge of TIA, IEC industrial standards for fiber optics. Interconnector design experience would be an added plus.
