KIK Custom Products is looking for a Packaging Engineering Manager in its Conyers, GA site. This posting is for our Classic Division, which specializes in Household Cleaners as well as the Pool & Spa categories and Legacy facilities.
With 15 manufacturing facilities strategically located throughout North America and over $1 billion in sales, KCP (operating as KIK Custom Products) is one of North America's largest manufacturers of both National Brand and Retailer Brand consumer products. KCP's product lines include Laundry, Household Cleaners, OTC Medicated, Pharmaceutical and Health & Beauty Care, all supported by KCP's in-house technical expertise and value-added services.
Essential Job Functions:
Essential Responsibilities:
Development of packaging structural designs for promotional Unitloads
Packaging specification development and validation for Labels, Triggers and Pallets
Packaging substrate material qualifications
Definition of equipment and material success criteria for package development
Conducting competitive assessments in structural designs
Assist with maintaining a database for all packaging specifications
Generate packaging related documentation including specifications, test plans and reports, qualification plans and technical presentations.
Develop appropriate pallet patterns, stacking configurations, and other parameters necessary to ensure product distribution outcome is positive
Responsible for UNDOT packaging certifications
Vendor engineering and technical capability assessment
Packaging vendor changes, manufacturing validation
Provide technical leadership in addressing vendor quality issues
Establish professional relationships with all suppliers
Support manufacturing in addressing technical packaging opportunities and production challenges
Collaborate with manufacturing to design packaging that does not negatively affect the production process
Provide packaging technical support for equipment installations and modifications
Lead Packaging Cost Savings Initiatives
Ability to build both internal and external relationships through teamwork and leadership
Qualifications:
Education
BA in Packaging Engineering/Science
IOPP Certification preferred
UN/DOT Certification preferred
Experience
3 -5 years of managing a packaging engineering group and 8 plus years technical packaging experience in high volume manufacturing environment
Experience in developing new product packaging through 3rd party firms
Experience with multiple packaging forms (plastic bottles, corrugate, closures, labels and multi-layer film)
Understanding of injecting molding, blow molding and print production
Managing team of engineers is a plus.
