|Job Description :
Located at Chemtura’s West Lafayette, Indiana facilities, the PIlot Plant Process Engineer will ensure successful development, testing and scale-up of safe and cost effective new chemical processes to the pilot plant and on to full-scale manufacture through the application of process engineering technology.
Collaborate with colleagues across the company including R&D, manufacturing and EH&S to develop efficient and safe chemical processes for new products.
Develop process flow diagrams, material and energy balances, models, simulations and other calculations necessary to design pilot processes and select equipment.
Create pilot testing programs to optimize new processes for manufacture and generate data required for scale-up
Be the primary technical resource to support technicians during all phases of piloting to ensure safety and maximum learning.
Analyze data collected to make recommendations for scale-up and further testing.
Generate detailed technology transfer documentation for plant design and report on pilot plant trials.
Develops procedures, guidelines and best-practices as required for maximum safety, efficiency and effectiveness.
Responsible for process safety in the pilot plant and provide technical support of audits.
Contribute to ensuring regulatory compliance for pilot plant operations.
Job Requirements :
Minimum Bachelors Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
0-3 years relevant process engineering experience in either a plant or pilot plant environment.
Solid understanding of chemical engineering fundamentals including heat and mass transfer, fluid mechanics, and material and energy balances.
Knowledgeable in separation processes, mixing, reactor engineering , pumping of fluids and process control.
Experience in troubleshooting, and optimization of chemical processes
Strong skills in process simulation and design using both software packages (e.g. Aspen, ChemCad) and self-developed models (e.g with Excel, MatLab etc.)
Self-starter able to work independently with sound time management and prioritization skills
Able to analyze financial impact of process design decisions
Computer literate (office products, process modeling, statistical analysis and process controller programming a plus)
Able to communicate with employees at all levels of the organization
