Job Description | BASIC FUNCTION:
Perform all accounting functions for the manufacturing plant. The main focus of this position is performance of month-end closing routines, financial reporting, cost management and cost analysis in support of the Controller, Plant Management, Plant Operations, and Omya Management. All accounting and costing activities are to be conducted in compliance with Omya AG Policy, International Accounting Standards, and accepted costing methods.
Assist with the preparation of all reports including budgets, costing, financial statements, statistical reports, forecasts, and performance reports. In addition, the position takes a lead role in balance sheet accounting including reconciliations and support of the annual audit.
This position also provides broad support to the Plant Controller for a wide variety of financial tasks.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Month end
Preparation of plant financial statements and reports including budgets, costing, statistical reports, forecasts, and supporting schedules.
Identify and explain monthly variances from budget with the preparation of monthly commentary.
Ensure that financial statements meet internal and external reporting requirements and deadlines.
Prepare, review, and approve journal entries and reconciliations.
Manage all inter-company billing (spare parts & consumables).
Year end
Ensure that reconciliations are prepared with appropriate backup including all working papers.
Assist external auditors with all year end audit activity as required.
Lead role in preparation of material for review with Controller.
Audit
Work with external and internal auditors to provide information required.
Perform internal audits, detailing issues and recommendations.
Maintain appropriate documentation for audit purposes.
Budgets
Preparation of plant budgets and forecasts on an annual or as required basis. This includes both capital and operating forecasts.
Financial Reporting
Ensure inventory cycle counts are performed to verify the physical balance.
Ensure costs for inventory items are reflected on an appropriate basis.
Develop plant relationships and communications to enhance cost and financial reporting.
Provide guidance to the purchasing department for changes in cost elements (e.g., pallets, media, dispersant, etc.).
Responsible for maintaining standard cost files and associated systems.
Manage the preparation of monthly cost reports including, cost trends, overtime & maintenance.
Provide IRR and cash payback analysis to evaluate new capital projects.
Track capital projects’ expenditures on a monthly and quarterly basis.
Systems; policy; procedure
SAP System responsibility including coordination of SAP general ledger financial system and reporting with the Controller, and department managers.
Evaluate and enforce Financial Policies and Procedures. Implement new procedures where necessary to maintain or improve compliance, in coordination with the Controller and group-wide Finance initiatives.
Ensure that accounting procedures are consistently followed and developed as needed.
Develop and implement procedures and policies in conjunction with other departments as required for control purposes.
Other
Develop & maintain computer financial models as required for use in the finance department.
Participate in special projects/prepare special analyses for management as required.
Develop procedures and documentation for the accounting area.
Ensure that records and support documentation are maintained accurately, updated regularly and controlled properly.
Other duties, as assigned from time to time.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The incumbent must have a four-year college degree (or equivalent) in business, finance, or accounting; 5-7 years increasingly responsible accounting and financial assignments in a mid size company (over $50MM); familiarity with financial systems, policies, and procedures; and hands-on experience with personal computers. A minimum of five years cost accounting experience is required. SAP or Oracle experience is desired. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Computer literacy-proficiency with Excel (pivot tables; data functions; lookups) a must. Able to handle multiple projects/priorities. Supervisory experience an asset. |
