Plastic Process Technician

Job Description
Position Summary
The Process Technician is responsible for testing and inspecting products at various stages of production process, compiling and evaluating statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products, and installing, conducting the cleaning and inspecting injection molds.

Major Responsibilities
· Interpret engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or formulas and confers with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards
· Perform continuous improvements through applied scientific molding
· Capable of diagnosing most molding problems
· Ability to safely start-up molds to cycle within standard rates
· Select products for tests at specified stages in production process, and tests products for variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance, and mechanical, electrical, or chemical characteristics
· Visually inspect and test machinery and equipment
· Read and understand blueprints and sketches
· Troubleshoot basic electrical, mechanical and hydraulic components
· Remove and install injection molds with a forklift, overhead crane, or Versa Lift
· Clean and inspect tooling in injection molds
· Ability to start and stop injection molding machines with established documented process
· Demonstrate the capability to meet or exceed established production rates and standards
· Follow basic work instructions on a daily basis with reasonable supervision
· Record test data, applying statistical quality control procedures, prepares graphs or charts of data or enters data into computer for analysis
· Evaluate data and write reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards
· Recommend modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability
· Set up and performs destructive and nondestructive tests on materials, parts, or products to measure performance, life, or material characteristics. Establish and maintain set-up sheets and all other pertinent quality documentation
· Establish and maintain records of all quality test protocols and for resin and color lot controls
· Establish and maintain pre-molding and post-molding tool evaluations (submit work orders for repairs)
· Audit contract molders to insure safe start-up and quality production as required/requested
· Initiates, leads and participates in many continuous improvement efforts through cost savings, gainsharing and kaizen or other related activities
· Work and communicate in a professional manner with all business associates
· Follow all Ames True Temper Policies and Procedures
· Follow all safety policies & procedures; including, but not limited to wearing all required personal protective equipment (PPE)
· Other duties within department as assigned (including, but not limited to, training of all other Production Operators, access supporting business systems, initiate, participate and lead continuous improvement activities, and cover for supervisor in running production floor, etc.)
Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Education Requirements
· High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
· Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must possess strong basic shop math skills
· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
· Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
· Basic computer skills with internet experience
· Strong mechanical aptitude/ability with working knowledge of molding presses, press controls, tooling, and other equipment pertaining to molding
· Knowledge of TPM methodologies and procedures
· Knowledge of Lean Principles, QDC, 5S and Continuous Improvement Proces

Relevant Work Experience
· High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
· Basic knowledge of mechanics, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry
· Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from 2-year college or technical school or 2-3 years related experience and/or training or journeyman’s papers preferred

Certificates/Licensure/Training
· Must be able to pass the Lock-Out/Tag-Out certification
· Must pass CHESS test and demonstrate the ability to operate the RF guns and do transactions correctly
· Must pass and maintain current industrial lift truck certification and operate all equipment assigned to the department
· Must pass and maintain current Versa Lift and industrial lift truck certification and operate all equipment assigned to the department
