Description

The Plastics Process Engineer position will provide engineering support for the developing new plastic process innovations, working in conjunction with the product development teams, design teams, sales account managers', marketing segment leaders and the technical process teams. Technical support areas identified but not limited is new process technologies, plastic material processing, tooling design, secondary process, completive material evaluations and other related plastic processes.

Provide technical support for implementation of new innovative process technologies to our customers. Create the technical case studies with presentations and assist with developing the business case to achieve the objectives. Develop training packages and train customers to best use the technologies. Goal is to gain acceptance to implement and commercialize the new technical innovations where we can capture the BASF value.

Internally the position will provide technical support for new innovative plastic process technologies, product development efforts, and project support for the designs teams, sales and marketing. Develop world class process conditions which define the best use of our materials. Provide technical assessment and feedback into new product development for achieving optimum material property performance. Use project management tools and tracking on all assigned programs or projects. Create and submit written documentation for internal reporting, presentations and external communications as required by project stakeholders and our customers such as call reports, customer letters, technical reports, summaries, updates, and highlights.

Qualifications:
BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

- BS degree, Plastics discipline preferred.

.
- Minimum of 5 years injection molding process experience in the plastics industry
- Additional plastic process expertise in areas such as extrusion and blow molding would be a plus
- Good knowledge and experience of plastics industry crystalline resins with BASF material knowledge a plus
- Good knowledge and experience of plastics design, secondary equipment, and tooling knowledge
- Must be able to hands on operate processing equipment with the ability to set up molds and secondary equipment.
- Must process excellent customer skills with the ability to build key relationships
- Must have excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Track record of demonstrated leadership skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrates team behavior and leadership.
- Capable of facilitating meetings and leading teams
- Excellent presentation skills
- Computer proficient, emails, windows programs, etc.
- Ability to learn, adopt and apply Six Sigma methodology
- Capable of managing & handling budgets and travel
- Practice safe plastics process operating conditions

Individual must be a highly motivated, capable of working with minimal supervision, have sense of urgency and work well in teams. Must have the initiative and drive for constant self-improvement in quality and performance. Must be capable of modeling BASF competencies in functioning within a matrix business environment which has very high expectations.

This position will at some point require relocating to another location, probably in the South East Michigan area. Being able to relocate to the new location is a key requirement for this role.
