Plastics Process Engineer

Job Description
Responsible for development and improvement of injection molding processes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

New Program Launch

o Participate as part of the program launch team as the plastic process expert

o Responsible for all aspects of developing an injection molding process

? Give input into mold design

? Coordinate / analyze / draw conclusions based on molding process simulation software (Moldflow / Moldex3D)

? Understanding of plastic materials and their processing characteristics

? Responsible for developing a process for injection molding machinery with experience in:

Standard injection molding, and multiple material injection molding (2-shot)

Application of systematic / scientific molding techniques.

Understanding of cavity pressure / advanced process monitoring /control techniques.

? Troubleshoot and develop solutions to mold, material, and process problems in support of part requirements.

? Support transfer of the developed process or mold into the manufacturing location (potential for global travel)

? Coordinate process optimization and trial runs

? Responsible for following, representing, and improving the maturation system.

? Utilize advanced problem solving tools when necessary, such as design of experiments, IPO’s, statistical analysis, etc…

Equipment and new technologies
o Aid in specifications and purchase of primary and secondary molding equipment and controls.
o On new technologies work to develop equipment specifications, processes, and training

Act as a problem solving resource in plastics expertise to the organization (customers, manufacturing, business units, etc…)

SUPPORT FUNCTION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support manufacturing process improvement activities

Launch support at manufacturing plant (Globally)

Attend Program Management Reviews

Participate in DVP&R, DFMEA, and PFMEA development meetings

Support APQP and VA/VE activities

Develop / provide training to plastics technical staff.

Support cavity pressure monitoring and control systems maintenance / troubleshooting.

Involvement in Feasibility reviews and part estimation process

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s of Science degree preferred or equivalent.

5 years or more experience in related field.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

Strong communication and interpersonal skills required for this position. Must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Must have the ability to speak effectively before groups of people (Customers or associates).ý
