Job Summary: The Premium Auditor contributes to company profitability and positive agency relationships by investigating, examining, and reporting on financial and operational characteristics of commercial business operations to determine earned premium on casualty coverages and other auditable exposures.
Specific Job Duties include:
Monitors and coordinates the Company's Premium Audit processes and workflows. Assists with training, educating and updating new and current Underwriting staff in accordance with Company guidelines including updates or changes in procedures. Determines type of audit to be performed.
Assists with the direct collection process by responding to audit disputes and premium recovery issues and inquiries from insureds, agents and attorneys. Analyzes and audits files to ensure accuracy and compliance with filings. Collaborates with other departments as needed to ensure appropriate outcome of the audit.
Completes formal written responses to the Department of Insurance, validating proper handling and billing of premium audits in accordance with ISO, Company rules and guidelines.
Conducts internal mail audits by obtaining needed information directly from the isureds by mail, phone and electronically. Creates audit spreadsheets detailing correct exposures for all classifications by reviewing financial and payroll documents to assist in meeting unit production goals.
Conducts physical and telephone audits on larger, more complex auditable accounts.
Reviews dispute information received from general agents, insureds or producers who are contesting an audit after it has been sent out for billing. Analyzes the submitted information for relevance and appropriate documentation by interpreting financial statements, federal tax returns, workser compensation audits, quarterly reports and state unemployment records. Decides if dispute information is valid to warrant a revision. Communicates directly with insureds and their representatives to resolve audit disputes and premium due the Company.
Communicates with all internal and external customers regarding disputes, exposures, classification changes or general auditing procedure questions pertaining to mail, telephone or physical audits with problems that arise when obtaining audit informations.
Manages vendor companies for time service and quality of work to ensure they are meeting the requirement of Berkley North Pacific.
May serve as a Company representative in trials, arbitrations, or mediations as needed.
Completes special projects as assigned by management.
Requirements
5-10 years Premium Audit experience in the Property & Casualty Insurance industry.
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or five years insurance related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced insurance education desired, e.g., CPCU, APA, AIS, AAI, ASLI. In-depth knowledge of accounting/bookkeeping and insurance company operations preferred.
Knowledge of the Commercial Lines Manual, PAAS and General Liability Rules
Ability to represent Berkley North Pacific to external customers in a positive and effective manner; work in a self-directed environment; define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions, communicate with a high level of professionalism with internal and external customers; work outside normal business hours to complete assigned tasks and travel overnight as needed.
