Job Description
Hughes Network Systems, located in Gaithersburg, Maryland is currently seeking a Principal Materials (Supplier Quality) Engineer. We are looking for a dedicated individual to join our team.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Technical understanding of passive components which include resistors, inductors and capacitors.
Working knowledge of active components to include power amplifiers, doublers, PLO which operate up to 30 GHz.
Lead related root cause analysis efforts for production line test rejects from a supplier quality perspective.
Will have significant interaction and coordination with design engineering personnel to ensure smooth product transitions from development to high volume production.
Knowledge of die casting and injection molding of aluminum, zinc and plastics as well as the secondary operations of machining, plating, painting, pad printing and more.
Understanding of PCB materials, fabrication and PCBA manufacturing is a plus.
Will work in a fast paced production environment to provide technical support to Operations/Manufacturing.
Will address supplier quality issues for incoming, current production, new product introductions and field returns.
Participate in MRB process to disposition non-conforming materials and will drive the 8D problem solving process.
Partner with Procurement and Engineering as a Commodity Team focusing upon supplier evaluation/selection, part approval and their ongoing reviews through the production life-cycle.
Firm understanding of quality processes and procedures such as ISO 9001 and TS 16949, as examples.
Qualification/Skills (Know of the Job)
Bachelors Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering is required and to include a solid quality background.
10-12 years minimum of materials experience and must include relevant SMT & PCBA manufacturing experience & background.
Abilities to document & communicate issues using photographic and video equipment.
Experience with SAP is preferred.
Good communication skills, both verbal and written is a must.
Proficient in MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Travel Percentage 15% or less
