| Job Description | SUMMARY OF JOB FUNCTION:
Define, specify and design Oclaro's new, advanced modulation format DWDM transmission products. Design and perform tests of system performance to guide and verify designs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and execute Design Validation Tests (DVT) to verify system performance of new products.
Design and verification of system level control loops
Support transfer to manufacturing including development and verification of calibration procedures for optimum system performance
DVT of MI 7000XM small form factor 40 Gbls DPSK module
Optical design and DVT of MI 5000XM 40 Gbls coherent module
Write test reports to document results and conduct reviews of test results

The successful candidate will have a key role in defining, specifying and designing Oclaro's new, advanced modulation format DWDM transmission products. He/she must have a demonstrated capability for self-directed work and a strong track record of confronting and solving challenging
The successful candidate must work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment cooperating closely with manufacturing and customer facing organizations as well as the rest of the engineering team.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
M.Sc. or Ph. D. degree in relevant field
Minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience in the optical transmission arena
Must have successful track record of product design from concept through manufacture and deployment
Proven track record of successful DWDM transponderl/ine card product developments
applicable to advanced modulation/demodulation formats and data rates
Demonstrated ability to solve challenging technical problems
Strong analytic and experimental skills
In-depth knowledge of DWDM technologies and systems
Experience specifying and testing optical sub-systems and system designs
Strong laboratory test and measurement skills
Experience in DWDM transponder/line card performance test and performance evaluation
Must be experienced with optical transmission simulation tools such as VPI
Knowledge of DWDM, OTN, SONET/SDH, Ethernet networking
Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
Must be customer-driven, solutions-focused and have a deep underStanding of optical transport equipment design and related optical component technologies, especially as they pertain to high data rate line cards and the design of DWDM transmission systems |
