Process Controls Engineer

Job Description
This position is responsible for design, implementation, and support of electrical control, monitoring systems, and automation of the manufacturing operations at the Northlake, IL plant. This position also directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering projects within prescribed time frame and funding parameters for given projects by performing the following duties personally.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties and responsibilities are representative and may be expanded.
•Analyze manufacturing processes and recommend improvements through design and implementation of control systems, equipment, and data acquisition and monitoring systems that will eliminate injuries, increase productivity, lower manufacturing costs, reduce waste, and reduce customer claims.

•Responsible for the design, programming, implementation, documentation, and support of web handling, motion control, and temperature control systems and associated safety components including PLC’s, P.C.’s, Drives (A.C., D.C., and Servo), and HMI equipment in an Allen Bradley environment. Thorough knowledge of all hardware and programming software is required.

•Responsible for hands-on development of distributed Industrial Control and Data Acquisition Systems including Ethernet, Networking, PLC, and Analog to Digital Conversion within an Allen Bradley controls environment.

•Research, design, program, and implement systems and controls using proven state of the art technology and methods. Apply these methods and technology to equipment and process automation.

•Plans and formulates new product development project implementation and organizes project staff according to project requirements.

•Assigns projects personnel to specific phases of projects such as technical studies, product design, preparations of specifications and technical plans, and product testing.

•Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company quality and productivity standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.

•Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.

•Coordinates installation and commissioning of production equipment at the specified manufacturing location.

•Directs integration of technical activities and products through the implementation and qualification phase.

•Suggests and evaluates design changes, and specifications.

•Controls expenditures within limitations of project budget.

•Prepares interim and completion project budget.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university, preferably in Electrical Engineering or Industrial Engineering is required.
•A minimum of 5 years related experience preferred in a manufacturing environment.

COMPUTER SKILLS:
•Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products is desired.
•Proficiency preferred in AutoCAD and Microsoft Project Management

OTHER SKILLS:
•Background training, and experience in Allen Bradley PLC, AC/DC and Servo drive configurations is needed.
•Knowledge and experience in Six Sigma and Lean is also desirable.
