Process Engineer, Assembly Operations
Job Description
BROAD FUNCTION:
Lead engineering efforts to support the startup of an internal assembly operation for printed circuit boards. The duties include design, layout, and improvement of embedded and solder component processes, monitoring overall process operations and developing solutions to a broad range of technical problems applying mechanical and / or material engineering principles, theory, and concepts. This engineer will participate in efforts involving concurrent design for manufacturability and alternative process technologies. The incumbent will have supervisory responsibilities for the assembly operations start-up team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead capital project efforts which will resolve production capacity and technology capability issues.
Work with CAM data and transfer data for programming of pick and place soldering station and the x-ray machine.
Deploy best practice principles for process control and product yield for pick and place soldering station, hot gas bonder, and X-ray machine and hand soldering of components.
Review performance outcomes, investigate problems and ensure revisions to documented procedures.
Establish performance measures and metrics, analyzes these metrics to identify and implement performance based improvements.
Participate with company teams in meeting customer quality and delivery requirements.
Support customers and internal design reviews to ensure compatibility of processing techniques.
Comply with and support all department and corporate policies and procedures, included but not limited to safety, security, RCRA and OSHA guidelines.
Compare manufacturing practices with external benchmarks and industry best practices.
Maintain current knowledge on industry standards.
Responsible for supervision of manufacturing personnel in the embedded component process.
Documentation of processes into work instructions, training guides and certification testing.
Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills
Capability for designing and analyzing experiments utilizing statistical tools and design of experiment.
Ability to interface with customers and deal with difficult issues.
Ability to create custom tools and fixture solutions.
Capital equipment and/or automation experience.
Strong project management, structured problem solving, data analysis and working knowledge of Word, Excel, E-mail, CAM, Visual Basic and Minitab.
Ability to teach and train others as required in the organization.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including ability to lead cross funtional teams.
Requires ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications. Working knowledge and application of SPC and ISO standards.
Must be able to work in noisy manufacturing environment around chemicals and mechanical equipment (proper PPE provided) lift 50 lbs., and sit or stand for extended periods of time.
Required Experience
Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
Experience: 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
Previous printed circuit board experience.
Must be eligible to work on defense and satellite programs subject to ITAR Regulations. Therefore, candidates must be U.S. Citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents ('Green Card').
