Job Description:

This individual will work within the MTS (Manufacturing Technical Support) group of Framingham Biologics reporting to one of the team's Process Engineers. The MTS group consists of engineers working to support existing commercial operations as well as the startup and commissioning of new manufacturing facilities and processes.

The MTS group works in conjunction with Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Automation Engineering, Equipment Engineering and Technology/Process Development to support and troubleshoot existing operations, provide recommendations for process improvements and facility projects such as new equipment, processes, or technologies implementation. The MTS group is responsible for providing real-time floor support to monitor equipment and process performance and to play a key role in diagnosing, troubleshooting and resolving equipment/process issues. The MTS group also provides technical leadership in terms of data analysis, process monitoring, and process performance reviews/investigations.

As an employee in the MTS group, you will be a part of a fast-paced and dynamic environment with visibility into the many different aspects of the technical side of commercial bulk drug substance manufacturing at Framingham Biologics within Genzyme. Framingham Biologics is a key manufacturing site for Genzyme, responsible for cell culture, purification, buffer, media, and equipment prep for multiple commercial therapeutic protein products as well as key capital projects to expand capacity and capability for future products within the network.

The key functions of this position include direct interface with manufacturing personnel and on-the-floor support and troubleshooting for protein purification operations. This role will provide an excellent opportunity to learn or improve one's knowledge and experience with Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP's) in a commercial manufacturing environment. This position will be for the day shift and will require some weekend work.

The responsibilities include the following:

1) Develop an in-depth, hands-on understanding of purification operations including commercial scale liquid chromatography and various filtration techniques.

2) Provide technical support of cGMP purification activities.

3) Assist with process troubleshooting and equipment issues arising on the manufacturing floor.

4) Author technical memos, engineering protocols and investigation reports.

5) Identify and drive the implementation of equipment and process improvements.

6) Monitor process performance and product quality data on a daily basis.

7) Provide change control support for purification activities.

Basic Qualifications:

BS degree in engineering or technical science

0-1+ years in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology role

Preferred Qualifications:

Good communication and written skills.

Ability to work well within a team.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
