Summary

Main Responsibilities
Support development/manufacturing efforts for a variety of fused-fiber components (e.g., high-power combiners, MFAs). Perform modeling studies using existing simulation software to optimize the performance of fiber-based components. Maintain and organize a fiber components laboratory that uses state-of-the-art process equipment for the development/manufacture of fiber-optic components.

Education
Minimum B.S. / M.S. preferred in Physics, Materials Science, Ceramic/Glass Science, or related Engineering discipline with an emphasis on Optics.

Experience
0-5 years of experience, preferably in a field related to using/manufacturing (a) optical fibers, (b) fiber-based components, (c) fiber-based systems (amplifiers). Experience with standard fiber processing equipment (e.g., fusion splicing/cleaving/re-coating equipment) is a big plus. Candidates having significant experience in an Optics laboratory, with an interest in learning processes related to fused-fiber fabrication of components, are also encouraged to apply.

Knowledge / Skills
Working knowledge of Optics, hands-on experience in the laboratory, good computer skills (LabVIEW, C++, is a plus). Needs to be well organized with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Individual must be able to work independently and also be able to direct long-term tasks through to completion.
