Process Engineer

Job Description
Position Responsibilities (key duties, scope of position, goals, expectations, skill requirements, and travel requirements):

· Work closely with the equipment suppliers, plant staff and Process Area Teams to ensure successful commissioning of the plant.
· Create safe job procedures for new employees.
· Provide development and training for the operators.
· Visible leader and unwavering support for Safety, Health and Environmental principles at the plant, including policies and procedures.
· Create positive culture to maintain Holcim represented status - Model plant´s Belief & Commitments Statements
· Function as a member of a multi-skilled team in a high performance, Process Area based organization.
· Provide leadership for area OEE teams.
· Assist and lead troubleshooting in assigned areas.
· Monitor and specify raw material and fuel characteristics to support the process and emission control programs.
· Works with QC Manager to ensure kiln feed and clinker quality (reactivity, setting time, free lime, grindability, particle seize distribution, variability).
· Continuously monitor process KPIs (Thermal and Electrical Energy Efficiency)
· Optimize Fuel mix (usage of pet-coke and AFR).
· Optimize Kiln/cooler/grinding systems throughput and operation.
· Identify potential for process optimization and improvement (with and without CAPEX) as a pro-active partner with the quality team.
· Develop and implement procedures for identifying the root causes of negative variances of KPIs (rate index, TSR and Kwh/t), and initiate corrective actions.
· Maximize and optimize use of automated systems (PCS, Linkman, process control loops, and PDH)
· Ensure accuracy of process indicators: data sourcing, calculation, calibration.
· Develop SOPs for operators.

· Conduct required audits such as heat balance, and follow ups.
· Facilitate completion of ATR.
· Completes DMA inputs.
· Conduct root cause analysis investigations
· Other duties as assigned

Educational Criteria:
•Bachelor´s degree in chemical or mechanical preferred

· Proficient in kiln/ cooler and grinding operations, process and control variables, equipment and instrumentation
· Sound knowledge of combustion process and fuels properties (both traditional and AFR).
· In depth understanding of circulation phenomena and its effects in kiln operation, clinker quality and refractory lining life.
· Sound knowledge of clinker chemistry and microscopy.
· Understand clinker quality (reactivity, setting time, free lime, grindability, particle seize distribution, variability)
· Competent in the skills contained in the basic and advanced Holcim US PPE courses : gas handling, raw materials, Pyro I and II, AFR, environmental controls, products and quality, control loop tuning, refractory management.
· Sound knowledge of cement and MICs chemistry (clinker hydration, impact of different elements in setting time and strength)
· Sound knowledge of de-dusting systems, design, configuration and operation
· Understand cement and concrete quality (Strength, setting time, particle seize distribution, variability)
· Understanding of dust emissions effects, limits, sources and controls.

Other Related Experiences Required or Preferred:

· Heavy industrial experience 3+ years preferred

· Basic computers skills preferred (web, spreadsheets, etc.)

· Business knowledge a plus

· Experience with SAP preferred





Knowledge/experience with Vertical Roller Mills preferred
