Central Garden & Pet Company (NASDAQ:CENT), is a leading innovator, marketer and producer of quality branded products for the pet, lawn and garden supplies markets. We are searching for a Product Engineer to join our team in Neptune City, NJ.

This position is responsible for the translation and transformation of pet product concepts (general market hard goods) to prototypes, and when prototypes are approved for launch; the industrialization (in house manufacture or out sourcing) start up process. The successful candidate must have a keen talent in problem solving, and direct or supervisory capabilities in key areas including designing (visual appeal), costing, incorporation of consumer benefits (value engineering), setting performance specifications, assessing production capabilities, setting standards for quality (appropriate for the price point), reliability, and serviceability, along with a successful track record of delivering finished products to the market.

In addition to technical competencies, the candidate must have proven management and team leadership skills, with a stated desire and communication skills to interact across a large corporate environment, including with senior management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage interface between marketing and the supply chain (Front End and Back End).

Lead project management process.

Oversee CAD-CAM processes and output.

Conduct monthly progress meetings for the product development group to meet the deadlines and annual new product plan objectives.

Budget oversight/management.

Identify and realize measures for yield improvement, test optimization and product cost
reduction.

Development of manufacturing methods, and roadmap for ramp-up and volume production, including specs for quality assurance (QA).

Support failure analysis, complaints and technical requests from customers.

Manage product development process from hand-off after ideation through commercialization in collaboration with Marketing and Supply Chain.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/EDUCATION

Minimum B.S. in Engineering. 10+ years of related experience. Toy industry or other CPG (hard goods) experience strongly preferred.

Must also have experience in the management of a developing project budgets, and project management software.

Required good Working knowledge of the following:

Plastics-material sciences and manufacturing.

Mechanical engineering.

Statistical and physical analytical methods and tools.

Specific CAD/CAM design/development software such as AutoCad, Pro-E and/or Solid Works.

Microsoft office including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.

Prefer working knowledge of electrical engineering.
