Job Description | This position has engineering responsibility for mainly new product development of components and systems, related to engine thermal management, that are aligned with BorgWarner’s product and technology strategies.
Work assignments are mostly project based that require design evolution or totally new product concepts or solutions. Work efforts require designs to be analytically evaluated for feasibility, proof of concept, developed, evaluated, tested, verified and launched for production. Product engineers will provide technical expertise and/or assistance to internal and external customers.
This position will be effective in obtaining and accessing technical market information and requirements to meet and create future product needs from many sources, including; customers, the market, account managers, program engineering, program manager, manufacturing and test engineering. A product engineer may work singularly or as a member of a project team or a team leader.
This position will be responsible for product/plant cost reductions and product rationalization, as well as coordinating PV and PPAP builds for new program launches.
Provide engineering reports and presentations to clearly convey project progress, conclusions and recommendations is required. The incumbent will conduct and/or design experiments and tests to characterize performance, identify potential improvements, and verify these performance improvements in a scientific manner. The incumbent will work in a department consisting of program engineering, design engineering, test engineering, procurement, fabrication, and test laboratories. Interface with manufacturing engineering and sales and marketing groups is also frequent. The incumbent is able to maintain open communication within the organization and be able to work well in a group / team atmosphere. The incumbent should possess a willingness and eagerness to undertake new and challenging work assignments, defining creative solutions major projects and day-to-day product issues. Knowledge and effective use BW quality processes and procedures is required. Innovation will be the significant contribution for this position.
Qualifications
1. Project Management:
a. Effectively maintains required documentation in accordance with Quality System procedures.
b. Works closely with the appropriate managers, engineers, designers and technicians in maintaining project documents.
c. Completes assigned work efficiently and in a timely manner.
d. Provides required inputs for preparing engineering budgets.
e. Effectively utilizes the work order system to initiate jobs through CAD, model shop and development areas.
f. Effective project timeline management and product development procedural process.
2. Product Management:
a. Perform engineering analysis and can demonstrate knowledge in use of engineering analysis tools and methods. Knowledge of advanced engineering analysis skills (like FEA, CFD)
b. Ability to bring forth and describe new product concepts.
c. Provides detailed and accurate analytical evaluations of concepts prior to concept selection and detailing.
d. Prepares specifications for testing of assemblies and components and submits them for approval.
e. Develops and maintains DFMEA’s and Design, Verification Plans (DVP’s) utilizing appropriate quality planning tools.
f. Follow established engineering procedures for work requests, procurement requests (REA’s), data retention, and record keeping.
g. Provide timely project status reports, in written or verbal format as requested.
h. Good oral and written communication skills.
i. Plans, with Project Leaders Support, the DVP and schedules its execution.
j. Use sound engineering principles and work practices such as statistical analysis, design of experiment procedures, program planning practices in project planning and execution.
k. Exhibit a professional attitude.
l. Provide the ability to work in a team environment with personnel of different responsibilities, training and education.
m. Maintain the necessary level of confidentiality when working with new product / process technologies.
n. Stay abreast of current and future engineering technology.
o. With the goal of continuous improvement in mind; attend trade shows, read pertinent trade publications and solicit new ideas from vendors, associates to keep BWA in the technological forefront.
p. Support the BorgWarner philosophy of concurrent engineering.
q. Support and maintain BorgWarner quality procedures and processes.
3. Prototype Procurement:
a. Provide team leader with prototype requirements for budgetary planning.
b. Monitor component design levels through concept, DV and PV process.
c. Independent procurement of parts/fixtures through use of central purchase order systems.
4. Customer Relations:
a. Maintain an open and friendly relationship with customers.
b. Assist in preparing & presenting concept & test proposals to customers.
5. Team Skills:
a. Work effectively with all internal customers such as sales to maintain a cohesive team effort throughout a customer program.
b. Work effectively with internal service groups and suppliers such as test engineering, CAD design, laboratory technicians and manufacturing to ensure effective coordination and completion of projects.
c. Work effectively towards maintaining the dignity of others while getting the job done.
d. Maintain an active communication with appropriate personnel throughout the execution of a project.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required, Mechanical or Electrical preferred. Require academic proficiency in statics, dynamics, structures and thermodynamics. Specific skills include Finite Element Analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics, 3D-CAD modeling, Cooling system analysis is preferred.
Knowledge of aluminum die casting and processing also preferred. |
