A product manager in this globally focused position is responsible for investigating, evaluating, determining, and recommending strategic business growth opportunities for Corning Cable Systems. Persons in this position lead the overall management of emerging applications business opportunities from inception through transfer to a receiving product line. Opportunities could lead to the establishment of new product lines that could be led from this position. This global role includes primary responsibility for product line coordination of fiber, cable and hardware development activities with Corning Cable Systems as with other divisions, functions, and regions within Corning Incorporated. The focus of this position will be to enable business for Corning in the consumer electronics space.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

(Strategic) Responsible for the global Emerging Applications vision, strategy and annual plan in accordance with the overall CCS business cycle.

Define the Vision and Strategy for the Emerging Applications product line in accordance with the overall corporate strategy.

Prepare the annual update to the Emerging Applications strategic plan.

Prepare a yearly product plan documenting the business environment, identifying key strategies/initiatives/objectives and executing the same.

Support the completion of the Greenbook, Blackbook and Linkages exercises.

Develop, update, and drive product roadmap results and prioritize efforts based on determined strategy.

Interface within CCS and other Corning Divisions.

(Financial) Responsible for managing and achieving Emerging Applications profit targets.

Responsible for defining and achieving Americas Emerging Applications strategic and annual pricing objectives in accordance with the overall business plan.

Track and prepare for major pricing events.

Lead strategy and decisions on major RFQ Pricing events.

Define rules for routine pricing.

Create value propositions that warrant price premiums to Emerging Applications customers.

Analyze business financial performance including product costs, sales price and fixed overhead expenses to identify and prioritize actions/initiatives that maximize product line profitability.

Understand, scrutinize, and minimize product line costs and allocations.

Responsible for achieving strategic and annual Americas Emerging Applications COM objectives.

(Operational) Lead the Emerging Applications product teams and provide representation on Program Teams.

Provide quarterly updates to Product Management Leadership Team.

Define and execute a cross-functional Emerging Applications strategy.

Define and execute a cross-functional Emerging Applications annual plan.

Define and recommend Emerging Applications manufacturing plan, including:

Capacity

Recapitalization

Global Capacity Usage

Efficiency increases with existing equipment

Manage business issues with external customers, external business partners, other Corning divisions, and internal customers

Provide oversight for the management and resolution of significant quality issues.

Define and prioritize the Emerging Applications development prioritization list.

Responsible for the overall process of new product development.

Work with the customer and sales team to understand product applications and customer network architectures to identify opportunities for new product development.

Clarify project requirements and develop financial calculations (NPV, PI) for these projects.

Prioritize development projects and measure development performance by tracking milestone performance.

Make Emerging Applications allocation decisions in conjunction with fellow PLMs.

Manage conflict resolution between commercial and operational groups, and make key business decisions involving product line profitability, quality, product development and service.

Travel Requirements:

Travel, including international, required depending on conditions. Up to 70% per month. 20% typical.

Required Education:

BS or BA degree – Engineering, Math, Science, Computer Science, Business, technical or equivalent experience is a must.
MBA desired.
100% fluent in English
Required Years and Area of Experience:

5 years experience in sales/marketing, product management, or business development.

Required Skills:

Ability to manage large projects, concurrently.
Ability to communicate compelling business recommendations to various organizational levels.
Ability to understand technologies, develop roadmaps, establish business cases.
Ability to deploy appropriate financial and accounting tools to maximize profitability.
