Job Description | Job Summary
The Product Manager is the champion and primary point of contact for all assigned products, with responsibility for product direction, functionality, and competitiveness. Major task areas include: market analysis; development of objectives and strategies for products or services; and making decisions on functionality, price, promotion, channels, and customer service. The Product Manager constantly collects and synthesizes information, forecasts trends in competition and market conditions, and adapts product strategies and tactical decisions to market changes. The Product Manager coordinates the activities of all departments related to the success of assigned products.
Responsibilities
Manage the complete product life cycle from initial development thru obsolescence. Analyze the market and research competitive offerings. Prepare strategies and road maps for all assigned products. Identify key product features and performance requirements. Initiate new product development programs and work with engineering to execute those plans. Define and direct product line evolution. Be aware of relevant product development in other company market areas. Develop and execute obsolescence plans for appropriate products.
Establish product line positioning and strategies to create sustainable aftermarket growth. Provide market data support for strategic pricing. Maintain competitive product offerings for the addressed market. Support corporate positioning strategies and profit goals. Develop and publish tools for configuring complex products.
Define and support all aspects of promotion for assigned products. Write product technical sales bulletins. Ensure the accuracy of published performance, technical specifications, and product safety issues. Coordinate the assembly, preparation, and delivery of product demonstration equipment. Prepare for, attend, and work at industry trade shows. Initiate product promotional offers. Assist with the preparation of trade publication and online advertising.
Be the primary point of contact for all assigned products. Assist in establishing channel policies and contract negotiation as required. Maintain regular communications with sales personnel, supply chain, distributors, and end users. Travel with sales personnel and visit customers to define product needs. Present product training for sales and customer personnel. Research, maintain and distribute relevant competitive data.
Report regularly on the status of all activities. Monitor and participate in internal operational meetings and activities related to assigned products. Report quality, delivery, pricing, support, or other product problems to relevant departments, and coordinate implementation of solutions. Perform any and all other tasks assigned.
Develop sales tools including financial analysis to support value selling activities for assigned products.
Manage supplier relationships for assigned products
Required Job Qualifications
Bachelors degree in business, marketing, or engineering
5 years experience working in engine related business
Ability to think strategically for growth and profit
Skills in use of standard Microsoft Office software
Preferred Job Qualifications
Knowledge of rail, power products, and other EMD aftermarket product areas
Commercial understanding of EMDs customers and sales efforts
MBA
Skills in use of SAP
Familiarity with emissions regulations
Familiarity with EMD products
