Job Description
Overview:

Orbitz Worldwide is looking for a Product Manager for the Marketing Technology group. This group is dedicated to a Feature Team focused on search results sorting and onsite personalization. The Product Manager needs a strong understanding of the metrics and drivers behind consumer product selection, consumer preferences and patterns and how they contribute to onsite personalization.

At Orbitz, Product Manager's are responsible for articulating requirements to the Feature Teams and providing insight or clarification when asked by the team. He/she is responsible for articulating the business stakeholder and customer needs in the requirements and proving concrete examples for acceptance criteria. The Product Manager is also responsible for prioritizing defects associated with the feature, including its impact on customers.

Responsibilities:

The Product Development organization is responsible for bringing booking travel to life for our customers and translating the strategic product roadmap into tangible software solutions.



Problem Solving and Innovation

Understands the product vision from the customer perspective and evaluates various approaches to implement solutions

Provides direction and encourages debate of alternative solutions with Technology, Machine
Learning, Analytics, Revenue Management and BI/Reporting

Drives product design and innovation

Projects how potential new ideas may play out in the marketplace

Makes decisions based upon a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment - sometimes with incomplete information and under tight deadlines and pressures

Continuously looks for process improvements within the product development lifecycle

Drives resolution on escalated issues

Manages functionally diverse product features that span feature and/or business stakeholders

Analytical

Use competitive analysis and market research to drive requirement details

Identify and ensure implementation of product success evaluation, articulate results, and take next actions for further feature improvement

Technical

Demonstrates a firm understanding of the technology produced, sort, onsite personalization and other Feature Teams that product initiatives may impact

Prioritize feature requirements and defects based on key metrics (customer value, cost, time to market, etc.) and acceptance criteria

Direct envisioning pace and outcomes. Create envisioning assets for clarity and communication. Translate outcomes into tangible product requirements in the form of a backlog of features, epics and stories

Direct definition pace and outcomes. Develop functional specifications including use cases, process/workflow, error messages and interface specifications

Define ""done"" in terms of acceptance criteria

Ensure clarity/understanding by entire team of requested work in support of sprint planning, balancing feature and non-feature work, focusing on both near term execution and long term planning

Ensure quality and completeness of the finished product by applying best practices to user acceptance testing and using product expertise to influence test cases

Define releasable feature milestones based on value to be delivered to customer

Manage functional production issues for features introduced into the site, including problem identification and monitoring through resolution, using bug-tracking tools and working with internal/external suppliers on data quality. Able to quickly gather relevant information to quantify the severity of the issue

Support and validate features contained in Feature Team's production releases

Retain ongoing product ownership for all features developed by feature team. Be proactive about identifying opportunities for future enhancements on features developed

Use knowledge of Orbitz features and functionality to recommend new features and identify relevant/dependent teams

Design features and identify relevant/dependent areas based on an understanding of Orbitz architecture and team responsibilities

Apply technology understanding to identify and communicate solutions, complexity, risk, and internal and external team impacts

Exhibits firm domain expertise for onsite personalization and search results sorting as well as developing expertise in online retailing, the travel industry, and Orbitz technologies

Communication

Create and distribute product release communications across the product organization and key stakeholders

Provide appropriate transition of features from development to product support teams (e.g. Business Operations, Customer Service, Service Operations)

Communicate health and quality of product delivery throughout development lifecycle to Feature Team Lead, Product Lead, Solution Architect, Group Manager, Product Strategy, and other relevant stakeholders

Own risk identification, mitigation strategies/impact analysis, resolution, and communications to teams and stakeholders

Leadership

Periodically join the planning and presentation of a product community of practice session

Mentor Product Analysts and foster constructive relationships with other Product Managers

Actively pursue opportunities to leverage subject matter expertise in the broader organization

Demonstrate high performance, cooperation, and dedication behaviors and foster the same in others

Sought out by others for advice and solutions

Qualifications:

3+ years of product management experience

B.S. degree required, MBA a plus

Experience with website personalization and sorting strategies

Knowledge of project management and software development methodologies – Agile methodology experience a plus

Track record of successful leadership and decision-making capabilities

Travel industry knowledge a plus

Software development experience a plus

30% travel required
