Department: Production

Position Summary
?Organize the production and curing team’s work which includes 9 assistants/supervisors and approximately 100 team members
?Manage Staff: integrate, train, appraise, redefine responsibilities, praise, ensure development and gauge training needs
?Conduct interviews as necessary
?Lead a team: delegate, instill a sense of responsibility, set targets, communicate instructions, control, listen
?Provide reports to line management
?Cooperate with other management personnel in formulating and establishing company policies, operating procedures, and goals.
?Apply well-defined standards (costs, budgets)
?Record, analyze and evaluate production and curing data, to determine the negative or positive net effect
?Lead and control various production parameters and implement corrective actions; propose improvement plans
?Propose technical and organizational improvements to line management
?Be involved in trials (machines, products, processes etc.)
?Works with Assistant Plant Manager in scheduling production and curing in a manner which maximizes the department’s capability while meeting needs forecasted by sales.
?Organize team’s output (efficiencies, headcount etc.); plan and schedule manpower consistent with production requirements.
?Apply any environmental regulations and ensure they are respected
?Apply the safety rules and ensure they are implemented and followed
?Participate in analyzing occupational hazards; prevent potential risks
?Take necessary measures if people are performing unsafe acts or are in an unsafe environment
?Take necessary measures when there is deviation from policies and standards; apply and enforce all quality programs
?Participate and recommend solutions to common quality issues
?Work closely with Quality/Food Safety Team to ensure the quality and specifications of product are continually being met
?Take action to continuously improve his/her process targets.
?Ensure the communication of the department targets and the monthly results to his /her staff.
?Participate in customers audits
?Follow the Food Safety Management System
?Key contributor of the FSSC 2200; ensure sustainability of the food safety programs for their departments
?Comply with all Lactalis American Group Policies and Procedures
?Work closely with other departments to have good communication within the facility; be able to react if problems arise and work together with other department heads to manage the situation.
?Good problem solving skills and some mechanical skills are needed.
?Displays great people skills and encourages team performance and positive attitude.
?Able to make decisions about the brie cheese making and curing processes, make adjustments to the parameters as needed.
?Detail oriented on the production and curing departments results analysis.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This includes the following, and other duties may be assigned:

Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Dairy Science/Chemistry preferred.

5 years experience in dairy production and/or food industry

5 years experience in a management/supervisory role

Knowledge of brie cheese making process to include adjust the cheese making parameters by analyzing the daily results, knowledge on starters strains, activity and performance

Computer skills (Excel, Word, Powerpoint), must be able to create graphs, charts, statistical formulas

Math skills to include: statistical and data analysis
