Production Planner / Buyer

Job Description
We seek a highly responsible technical professional to execute the day-to-day purchasing and production/inventory planning functions to meet goals for production, inventory and on time delivery of customer orders.

Responsible for analyzing and maintaining the data within the MRP system, issuing purchase orders, production orders and maintaining proper inventory levels. Responsibilities also include maintaining engineering Bill of Materials (BOM's), inventory control procedures, determining and reporting changes in customer orders and its impact upon inventory and production.

Work in conjunction with Purchasing, Engineering, Manufacturing and Inventory Control to support the day-to-day production plan.

Production Planner / Buyer Responsibilities

• Review output from the MRP generation. Analyze purchase requisitions and planned production orders
• Create production orders to support production plan
• Release standard and custom production orders for production
• Process purchase requisitions, determine appropriate supplier, Issue purchase orders.
• Resolve problems that arise in relation to delivery dates, quality, specifications, quantity or cost of purchased goods or services.
• Work with Engineering and Manufacturing to ensure the correct material, correct quantity is available for production at the appropriate time.
• Negotiate prices and follow competitive bidding procedures when necessary to ensure the lowest total cost of goods
• Expedite late production or purchase orders as required
• Review invoices and ensure complete agreement with purchase orders. Resolve any discrepancies
• Monitor movement of product inventory and make recommendations for improving inventory turns.
• Manage Bill of Material (BOM) accuracy to ensure correct and timely use of
components.
• Project status: Act as a liaison between Manufacturing, Engineering, Sales Administration, and vendors to resolve problems.
• Effectively manage work time and be self-directed in order to meet production needs/schedules

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience in MRP, production scheduling, inventory management or other supply chain management function required.
• Strong technical knowledge of purchasing, production planning and inventory control in manufacturing environment
• Understanding of Supply Chain best practices.
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives
• Excellent analytical and organizational skills with an ability to handle a multitude of projects required

Computer Skills

• Competence with Microsoft Office software required
• Detailed knowledge of MRP/ERP systems required. Experience with SAP a plus

Education /Certificates

• Working towards or possesses APICS Certified (CPIM) highly desirable
• Bachelor's degree in engineering technology, manufacturing technology, business administration, supply chain or operations
