Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE

The fluid power/mechanical engineer will perform a variety of complex work in designing, planning, construction management, installation, operation improvement, and maintenance of mechanical and hydraulic components, equipment, system, and machinery. Duties will include installation and startup of new equipment, as well as improving existing machinery. This is a corporate position, and will require travel to other satellite plants and joint venture locations.

DEPARTMENT/ UNIT

The engineering group designs, builds, and implements new forging equipment for producing forgings and downstream assets to machine and heat treat customer parts. At implementation this group was responsible for designing & building the largest two post, stauff guided, hydraulic press in North America. Other notable group accomplishments include: large upset press, fuel efficient furnaces, cost effective quench tanks, forging manipulator improvements.

POSITION DESCRIPTION/PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

General Responsibilities:

Preparation and review of calculations, reports, & preliminary design drawings to substantiate or qualify designs.
Coordinate complex designs with other Scot Forge personnel to ensure interdepartmental functionality and technical compliance.
Conceptualize, design, & document mechanical/ hydraulic systems for heavy equipment.
Troubleshoot critical equipment breakdowns due to hydraulic or mechanical failures, in a timely fashion and recommend course of action to prevent similar issues.
Research, analyze, recommend, and design upgrades to components and systems with current technology to improve machine reliability and efficiency.
Responsible for overseeing startup and commissioning of new and updated equipment within the realm of the design discipline involvement.
Directs internal labor and external contractors in performing their duties for new projects and upgrades.
Recommend and assist in developing preventative maintenance programs for mechanical and hydraulic equipment.




Requirements/ Skills:

· Knowledge of troubleshooting hydraulic systems & electro-hydraulic systems.
· General project management skills related to expediting tasks for large projects.
· Thorough knowledge of fluid power systems and the schematic representation of circuits.
· Knowledge of field instrumentation including those related to pressure, temperature, and fluid flow.
· Knowledge of mechanical design and sizing of hydraulic components including valves, motors, actuators, connectors, piping, and hoses.
· Proficient in 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks, and knowledge is circuit schematic generation software such as Vest HyDraw CAD, and experience with Excel.
· Knowledge of plant level safe work practices and procedures.
· Exhibits a high level of mechanical aptitude.
· Willingness to be hands on in the shop environment.
· Reveals a self-starting attitude with dedicated follow through.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required.
Some field engineering experience is preferred but not required.
A fluid power background is required.

Required Skills:
The successful candidate must possess excellent and communication skills, be organized and detail oriented. The ability to work both alone and within a team is essential. Blueprint reading skills are a must. Some travel may be required to satellite plants. Candidate should be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite.
