We are currently looking for an innovative, collaborative, and self-starting Project Engineer to join our development organization. This newly-created position will manage Proto Lab’s projects (both software and multi-discipline) to deliver new business capabilities on predictable timelines while maintaining a high standard of quality.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities of this position include: ?
Manage large software and cross-functional development projects (projects that include substantial involvement of more than one of the following: software engineering, mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, process engineering, marketing, sales).
Develop project charters and work with technical and business stakeholders to define requirements, determine staff needs and commitments, timelines, dependencies, success criteria, and deployment steps for projects of varying scope and function ranging from 3 months to 24 months in duration.
Manage requirements and scope change as the project progresses and ensure stakeholders understand the costs of scope and requirements creep as part of the decision-making process.
Provide regular project status updates to stakeholders and management and perform post-project assessments.
Recommend process improvements to achieve higher levels of success for delivering quality results on predictable timelines to meet overall business objectives.
Requirements
We’re looking for someone who’s both smart and gets things done. We want someone with a track record of delivering projects (especially software-intensive projects) on time with a high level of quality.
Additionally, we’d like to see most of the following attributes: ?
At least five years of direct experience managing technical projects of three to ten people and 3 to 24 months duration.
Experience with project management tools such as Gantt and PERT charts, CPM, etc.
Outstanding interpersonal and leadership skills, strong work ethic, self-motivated and excellent presentation skills.
Able to interact with many types of individuals including: developers, engineers,
executives, manufacturing personnel, and other business professionals.
Experience with process automation in a manufacturing environment.
An understanding of software applications from both a technologist’s and a user’s perspective.
Experience with, or understanding of, agile software development practices such as Scrum, FDD, or Extreme Programming.
PMI certification and formal project management training desired, but not required.
Demonstrated history of staying current in field of expertise.
Educational Requirements:
Four-year engineering degree.
BSCS, BSSE, BSEE, or BSME preferred. ?

Additional Information: Proto Labs’ Corporate Headquarters is located in Maple Plain, MN, just minutes west of the 494/394 interchange. Our Rosemount, MN facility is located off of the County Road 42 and Highway 3 intersection & east of 35W.
