The Project Engineer is responsible for performing diverse engineering analysis, managing Capital Projects and implementing process changes for operations. The latter includes machine capability evaluations, modifications of equipment, and developing solutions to production problems relating to materials, processes, and procedures to maximize efficiency and yields. By definition, the Engineer is responsible for traditional engineering project management including equipment evaluation, justifications, project accounting management and start-up of the operation.
Develop, lead and execute Capital Projects for quality and performance improvements on our key technology platforms for both processing and packaging systems.
Improve system efficiencies, reduce ingredient losses and design new product/process tests.
Develop, test and implement technological improvements for production systems.
Interface closely with all levels of the organization, including other engineers, research and development, quality, plant management and plant technicians.
Experienced in engineering project management skills from inception through completion. (Sequentially) Initiates concepts, develops designs, estimates costs, formulates justifications, coordinates installations, troubleshoots start-ups, writes operational and maintenance manuals and train required personnel.
Coordinates drawing files, CAD file management, process documentation, process flow diagrams and technical literature.
Demonstrates a thorough understanding of Micro-processors, PLC, Electrical and Control systems through troubleshooting and programming work. Understanding of electrical and control systems in support of business objectives.
Analyze, identify and resolve critical operational problems using the latest control and information technology, modeling methods and knowledge of Rich Products processing methods.
Conceptualizes and evaluates future projects for the engineering team in the capital planning process.
Represents the company''s position and interest effectively in dealing with outside contractors, vendors, and engineering consultants as well as maintaining a constructive positive attitude within the facility.
Communicates effectively and informs operational leaders of related work through scheduling and plant meetings.
Site Safety, Environmental and GMP - Ensure those high standards of the listed are developed, met, and maintained at the facility.
Preparation of reports and summaries as required (timely monthly reports).
Assists in follow-up of prototype construction with outside vendors.
Secures quotations and expedites materials and delivery for other departments if necessary.
Participates in the development of policies and procedures related to engineering, safety, etc.
Preparation of Capital Projects.
Inter-relates with Corporate Engineering when necessary to facilitate project completion.
Using plant engineering knowledge, past plant experience and outside assistance when necessary, assist all facets of plant operations in trouble shooting operations problems and recommending solutions thereto.
This position requires assisting Plant Manager in a comprehensive knowledge of all product specifications, processing, packaging equipment, raw materials, packaging materials, refrigeration, power supply, and electronic equipment and utilities. Products must meet rigid chemical, physical and bacteriological standards. Effective integration and coordination of multiple functions requires a high degree of managerial skills.
Under the direction of the Plant Manager, the position requires the incumbent to deal with a wide range of problems involving a wide diversification of processing, packaging, material handling, refrigeration, and electrical equipment. Frequent production line changes and limited physical space add to the complexity of the position.
Coordinate design with plant personnel and present results clearly to acheive acceptance and ownership by the plant within change control requirements/approvals.
Provide conceptual plant layouts for facility planning.
Direct the activities of outside personnel in acheiving all of the project and facility planning goals. Take a leadership role in Rich's Mission World Class as it relates to this position.
Performs other Engineering duties as assigned.
Occasional work on weekends.
Required Skills •4 years mechanical or chemical engineering degree.
•8 to 10 years experience in engineering and maintenance in chemical pharmaceutical, food and/or dairy processing. Knowledge of automated manufacturing systems, process contols, and instrumentation required. Must have experience in plant layout/facilties design, refrigeration, understanding of computer applications and be well versed in SPC's. Experience needed in working with regulatory agencies, i.e.; water, utilities, and environmental.
•Excellent communications skills, assertive and consultative management style- willing to be a leader, capable of multiple tasks simultaneously, PC literate in speadsheet, word processing, scheduling, and CAD. Familiarity with all engineering disciplines. Knowledgeable of plant operations. Can obtain and use information from others.
•Can coordinate people and organizations toward a common goal. Can identify and correct problems in schedule, cost, communications, and priority during projects. Can innovate management solutions to problems and implement them.
Required Experience
Bachelor's degree in engineering or other strong manufacturing discipline with 3 to 6 years of experience in the food industry.
Strong analytical and communication skills. Ability to write a concise report of findings.
Functional computer and programming experience.
Understand the interrelationships of factors affecting a given situation and be attentive to detail.
Capable of efficiently integrating existing methods with new innovations to economically solve production problems in a timely manner.
Knowledge of Food Processing and Food Processing Equipment.
Good Project Management Skills. Able to prepare detailed project schedules to be used to manage projects. Takes appropriate follow up and corrective actions. |
