Position Summary
Under general supervision, prepares preliminary construction schedules from engineering plans and specifications, prepares integrated Master Schedule, assists project construction managers in assessing job schedule progress, prepares cost estimates of proposed changes, and prepares estimating standards and procedures. Performs other related duties as required.

Distinguishing Characteristics
The incumbent in this position provides technical expertise to IPI in the area of construction scheduling and estimating. The work requires a working understanding of engineering drawings and construction methods and production rates. The Project Scheduler/Estimator receives general supervision and work assignments from the Capital Project Manager and assists the project construction managers and administrators on a daily basis.

A. Typical Tasks/Duties
Scheduling Tasks

· Selects appropriate software to prepare schedule.

· Assists the Capital Project Manager with development of the project schedule.

· Reviews plans & specifications and develops preliminary and develops and maintains final construction schedules.

· When necessary, analyzes the Contractor’s work schedule.


Estimating Tasks

· Assists Project Design Engineer with development of the Project budget estimate.

· Prepares estimates of scope changes and assists with cost optimization.

· Prepares estimates of contract changes and assists with price settlement if requested.

· Prepares estimating standards and procedures for use on future project.

B. Knowledge Skills and Abilities
To perform the typical tasks and duties of the position successfully, the knowledge, skills and/or abilities listed below are required and/or desired.


Knowledge of:

· Critical Path Method (CPM) and Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) fundamentals including developing a CPM resource loaded schedule.

· Principles of construction cost estimating and IPI estimating guidelines.

· IPI standard scheduling and reporting specifications.

· Project earned value applications and assessment.

· Standard PC software and hardware, including project estimating, planning and scheduling software.


Ability to:

· Read plans and specifications and develop an approach to construction and construction BOM on multiple projects.

· Develop estimates and timelines from concepts and rough ideas.

· Develop and maintain an historical database of costs and production rates from previous IPI projects

· Communicate effectively in both written and oral format.

· Work under deadlines and coordinate several concurrent deadlines.

· Accept supervision and adjust to changes in work priorities as determined by altered priorities.

C. Education and Experience
Associate’s degree in a related field and four plus years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Further preference given to those with experience in engineering and construction with primary assignments in estimating, scheduling and project controls. Must have experience in cost estimation in areas similar to Intrepid’s construction projects, such as civil/industrial building and infrastructure.

D. Other Characteristics
Certification in professional field such as, Project Management Institute (PMI), Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE), Professional Estimators, Professional Construction Manager or certification as a Professional Engineer is desirable.
