Overview:

ATMI is seeking an R&D Production Engineer to perform the synthesis and purification of B2F4 - a novel new material ATMI is bringing to market. This position will have responsibility for the safe operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of one or more reactors, high pressure gas handling manifolds, and purification equipment, with the goal of meeting monthly production targets. The R&D Production Engineer will also be responsible for identifying methods of continuous improvement and to document these in existing or new SOPs. In this position, the R&D Production Engineer will work as part of a new product development team, taking direction from a shift R&D Production Lead, as well as other project leaders. This position is a long term contract role and is located in our Danbury, CT facility.

Responsibilities:

Safely operate reactors, high pressure gas manifolds, purification systems, and abatement equipment per SOPs associated with the production of B2F4;

Provide input on methods to continually improve various aspects of production, some examples being safety, production rates, and cost;

Document new processes, or improvements to existing processes through new or updated SOPs;

Track metrics associated with production, such as production rates, yields, costs, and inventory levels; report out to project leaders regularly;

Track and develop guidelines for spare parts usage and costs;

Clean and maintain equipment;

Work with project leaders perform reactor optimization experiments;

Work with project team to install and start up new equipment as needed;

Operate analytical equipment to measure purity levels;

Perform various production activities in SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus).

Qualifications:
Successful candidates will typically have the following skill set:

B.S. in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry strongly desired, or equivalent;

Prefer 2+ years of experience working with hazardous gas handling systems and knowledge of the various instrumentation and componentry used in such systems;

Knowledge and operation of automated computer control systems;

Knowledge of proper lab techniques and protocols;

Excellent PC skills with proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), MS Project, CAD and Statistical software;

Ability to interpret and execute to a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form;

Ability to follow strict SOPs;

Experience safely working with hazardous chemicals, including organic solvents;

Experience working in SCBA a plus;

Experience working on new product development teams a plus;

Sig Sigma & DFSS experience a plus;

Knowledge in the semiconductor industry a plus.
