Job Description

Position Summary
The Research Associate II, RNA laboratory will be one of the first employees of newly established Alexion RNA laboratory in Cambridge, MA. S/he will make contributions to projects aimed at the discovery and development of new therapeutic RNA molecules for various orphan indications.
Principal Responsibilities
•Performing in vitro assays to characterize biologic activity and potency of mRNA molecules.
•Performing proof of concept experiments for potential candidate molecules under the direction of the supervisor and in support of project timelines.
•Assisting in data compilation and analysis
•Maintaining records in electronic notebooks in accordance with the ELN policy
•Writing Technical Reports in support of IND applications
•Providing updates at project team meetings
•Assisting in ordering, stocking and maintaining the inventory of laboratory supplies, and will participating in general laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance and organization
Qualifications
•Work experience: BS: 2-5 years (MS: 0-2) years of laboratory experience in an academic or industrial setting (preferred) with focus on RNA
•Demonstrated success in performing following techniques:
•Working knowledge of molecular biology (DNA and RNA isolation, cloning, sequencing, PCR, RT-PCR, Taqman assays, in vitro transcription etc.)
•Experience with protein expression, purification, ELISA, Western blotting, SDS and native PAGE, quantitation assays
•Experience with tissue cultures and aseptic techniques
•Ability to perform in a fast-paced industrial environment.
•Exhibits scientific curiosity, has a working knowledge of the research laboratory environment and is familiar with all basic and some complex laboratory equipment / instruments.
•Demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary team environment.
•Able to work independently to accomplish project goals.
•Excellent communication, record keeping and organizational skills.
Education
•BA/BS or equivalent degree in Pharmacology, Cell or Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or other biomedical science with 2-5 years of relevant laboratory experience, or an MS or equivalent degree in a Life Sciences discipline with 0-2 years of relevant laboratory experience.
