Salary Range: D-2
Exempt/Non-Exempt: Exempt
Employment Type: Full Time
Department: Research and Development
Description: This position is expected to assist in the generation of expressions systems including, but not limited to, plant-based expression vectors, plant infiltration, and extraction and yield analysis of recombinant proteins. The Research Associate of Molecular Biology will perform experiments and interpret results, subject to verification by the Scientist of Molecular Biology, according to applicable SOPs and business/biological deadlines.
Duties: Essential Job Functions:
• Assists in expression vector construction
• Helps facilitate the expression of recombinant proteins
• Assists in the generation and maintenance of stocks
• Keeps records of results
• Ensures Lab Maintenance
• Prepares and update official documents
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or other related discipline, required
Minimum of 2 years experience in cloning and protein analysis methods
Intermediate knowledge in standard molecular biology techniques including cloning, PCR, gel electrophoresis, bacteria transformation, DNA isolation and sequence analysis
Intermediate knowledge of plant-transient expression systems and/or plant infiltration
Intermediate knowledge of protein characterization techniques including Enzyme-linked Immuno Assay (ELISA), western blot, and SDS-PAGE
Advanced skill in documentation and attention to detail
Advanced skill in basic computer functions such as word processors, spreadsheets and presentation applications
Language Abilities: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, memos, and work place policies. Ability to analyze, interpret general business periodicals, professional and scientific journals, procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to write professional and scientific correspondences. Ability to speak effectively with other employees and/or customers. Ability to present formal information in one-on-one and small group situations to management and/or other employees. Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers and/or employees.
Mathematical Abilities: Ability to add, subtracts, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and design and interpret charts and graphs to communicate business and scientific issues.
Reasoning Abilities: Ability to carry out detailed written and/or verbal instructions. Ability to solve problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Temperament: Flexibility and coping with change. Multitasking. Performance under tight deadline. Freedom to work from supervision.
Other Abilities:
• Familiarity with cGMP regulations for biologics manufacturing
• Familiarity with VectorNTI® software, preferred
• Collaborative team player
• SOP and protocol writing
• Must be able to communicate effectively through oral and written communication
• Must be able to gather and analyze information skillfully
