| Job Description | Calgon Carbon Corporation, a global manufacturer and supplier of activated carbon and innovative treatment systems, provides value-added technologies and services for optimizing production processes and safely purifying the environment, has an opportunity for a Research/Process Engineer located in Pittsburgh, PA. With the most advanced research and development capabilities plus 16 carbon manufacturing, reactivation and fabrication facilities, Calgon Carbon is the world's largest manufacturer of granular activated carbon with production and operations in North America, Europe and Asia.
The Research/Process Engineer is primarily responsible for planning and executing projects for upgrading manufacturing processes from the standpoints of quality and/or cost. In addition this position supports product development, by either increasing value of current products or creating new products to meet market needs. Most projects will begin with lab simulation of a potential process, then progressing to larger-scale work, to eventually an on-site plant demonstration. Subsequent lab work will confirm the field results and complete the project. 15-25% travel is likely, consisting mostly of time in a manufacturing line, but occasionally in support of marketing/sales activities. Additional duties may include lab generation of new products, for which ability to build/operate lab-scale equipment, and independent creative approaches to technical challenges, are a must. The position requires ability to work effectively in a team setting with plant and lab personnel with various backgrounds and education, in combination with a 'hands-on' approach, for completing project goals quickly. Thorough documentation of projects is also expected.
Requirements:
Minimum M.S. Chemical Engineering
2-4 years of process and/or product R&D development experience in an industrial setting
Demonstrated practical application of statistics, and solid computer skills.
Advanced knowledge of chemistry and experience with activated carbon are preferred. |
