| Job Description | Algenol is seeking to fill one position of Research Scientist - Molecular Biology and Microbiology (Ph.D.) in its Biofuels Research Department. The major tasks for this position is to actively participate in research aimed at developing and characterizing improved hybrid algae for ethanol production under the guidance of the Director of Molecular Biology.
Responsibilities Include:
Design and construct vaious vectors for gene expression and pathway engineering; transform, screen and evaluate hybrid algae strains for enhanced ethanol production
Perform molecular, biochemical and physiological studies of hybrid algae
Plan and conduct various experiments; collect, analyze, document, report and present data
Keep current with relevant scientific and patent literature; take initiatives in conceptualization, development and implementation of new strategies and methods in research
Help other team members in solving problems and achieving team goals
Essential Required Skills:
A strong molecular biology and microbiology background, exceptionally proficient in DNA cloning, vector construction and protein expression
Familiarity with microbial strain construction, metabolic engineering, systems biology and assay development
Excellent communication and teamwork skills to be productive in a goal-oriented, fast-paced and interdisciplinary team.
Positive and can-do attitude, creative and multitasking
Preferred Skills:
Proven experience in transformation of difficult microbial species
Hands-on experience in directed evolution and highthroughput screening method development is very desirable
Research experience with photosynthetic organisms such as plants or algae
Knowledge and experience in cell cycle regulation or stress biology
Several years of Post-doc and or Biotech industrial R&D experience is beneficial
Qualifications:
Ph.D. degree in biology, botany, marine biology, microbiology, biochemistry or related
discipline with formal training in microbiology and molecular biology.
