Description Harleysville Insurance is a premier regional property and casualty insurer offering a full portfolio of commercial lines, personal lines, life, and flood insurance products. We have an excellent opportunity for a Risk/Loss Control Regional Manager in our Risk Control Department with solid property and casualty risk control and management experience to join our team of Good People to Know. The person in this position will work out of our New Jersey branch and will be responsible for our NJ and DE States.

This position is responsible for managing the administrative, technical, financial, and educational activities of risk control across a designated commercial lines region.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

? Controls all risk control activities for their staff by coordinating work assignments, vendors and maintaining the quality of work

? Provides leadership by displaying a positive, optimistic attitude towards challenges and problems

? Recruits, selects, trains and evaluates the performance of their staff

? Encourages and supports the professional development of the staff

? Provides ongoing performance feedback to staff and provides training to address developmental needs and opportunities

? Maximizes internal and external resources (people, supplies, systems, tools, etc.) to achieve corporate goals with an emphasis on expense management

? Works with corporate and regional management to achieve and maintain effective working relationships with producers and insured customers

? Effectively communicates with producers, insured customers, underwriting staff and management

? Understands and supports the company’s goals, products and strategies


Qualifications Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Physical Science, Risk Management, Safety or Business Degree required (or equivalent). Masters Degree preferred. Desirable Industry designations: PE, ARM, CRM, ALCM, CSP or CIH. Maintain or acquire appropriate certifications and/or designations as required by state guidelines.

Minimum of eight years of risk control experience in the insurance industry, primarily with an insurance carrier. Minimum of two years of supervisory/management experience is also required. Experience with the NJ and DE states is required.

Specific Job Knowledge:

? Knowledge of risk control department operations.

? Excellent interpersonal skills

? Knowledge of risk control department interactions with other business units.

? Knowledge of technical risk control programs, practices and procedures in identifying,
analyzing evaluating and controlling exposures.

? Working knowledge of technical codes and standards including NFPA, DOT and OSHA.

? Knowledge of state specific risk control regulations and compliance.

? Technical research to support underwriting and CLTMS

? Understanding of industry and business manufacturing including construction, fleet, real estate, operations and processes.

? Knowledge of insurance coverages.

? Knowledge of hazardous materials safety, chemical handling, fire science, ergonomics, industrial hygiene exposure and sampling techniques.

? Knowledge of insurance marketing and sales/relationship building skills.

? Knowledge of effective risk control training techniques.

? Excellent ability to coordinate activities with a variety of peoples

? Knowledge of effective business consulting programs.

? Knowledge of risk control resources, trade associations, and organizations

Some overnight travel will be required.
