Job Description | DESCRIPTION/JOB SUMMARY
The Sr. Cost Accountant is responsible for performing routine and special cost analyses in accordance with corporate and divisional policies and procedures by preparing various routine and special reports and analyses and by providing adequate and accurate manufacturing cost information. Responsible for monitoring the inventory management system used to control and value inventory. This position also provides analysis of operations variances resulting from manufacturing activity and provides financial support.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
Determines cost of sales and inventory valuation for closing and financial statements.
Investigates and analyzes unusual production cost variances on a monthly basis.
Reviews and modifies costing structures as required.
Assist in analysis of actual cost.
Prepares program, trains participants, coordinates process, and supervises the Annual
Physical Inventory to ensure accurate inventory counts; facilitates the observation of entire process by outside auditors and acts as their liaison with the Company; analyzes, interprets and reports results to management on a timely basis.
Classifies labor, material, and overhead costs to develop unit costs which most accurately reflect cost flows in the production process.
Provides estimates for the cost of sales in order to facilitate the budgeting process.
Assists management in projects including: capacity analysis, pro forma cost models for new products, process changes, and others whose purpose is to increase future growth and profitability of the Company.
Performs monthly P&L review and forecast updates.
Assists with necessary functions relating to annual standard cost freeze.
Assists in the preparation of the budget for the operation.
Conducts professional/internal control reviews.
Preparation of journal entries for month-end closing.
Assists Plant Controller with preparation of monthly forecast.
Completes governmental surveys as required.
Prepares and submits quarterly management financial reports.
Provides support during internal and external audit.
Performs other functions as required.
PREFERRED SKILLS
· Prefer Manufacturing/Operations experience.
· CMA desirable.
REQUIRED EDUCATION
· Bachelor degree in Accounting and three years in accounting experience OR five years experience required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Must have experience in cost accounting with some background in general accounting. Experience in both job and standard costing systems desired.
Good communication skills both verbal and written.
Ability to convey information in a clear and concise manner to employees at all levels.
Strong mathematical, organizational, problem solving and analytical skills.
Ability to manipulate large amounts of data.
Microsoft Word and strong proficiency with Excel.
PC abilities and calculator (10-key)
