Job Description | LS9, an industrial biotechnology company that is developing a portfolio of sustainable fuel and chemical products, seeks an experienced Scientist to join our Synthetic Biology team in support of our fuels and chemicals programs. The successful applicant will be experienced in state of the art in vitro and in vivo DNA manipulations and will be responsible for high-throughput design and construction of synthetic genes, pathways, and microorganisms.
As a member of the Synthetic Biology competency group, this individual will apply a deep understanding of nucleic acid chemistry, enzymology, and biology to develop and implement technologies to support efficient computational design, automated construction, and evaluation of LS9 microbial catalysts. The individual must thrive on the development and application of practical technologies, have a passion for automation and high-throughput experimentation, and have demonstrated experience in the implementation of these technologies in an industrial setting. This is an in-the-lab position with significant growth and leadership opportunities.
Specific Requirements:
M.S./Ph.D. or equivalent in molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, chemical engineering, or related field and 5+ years of laboratory experience in the related areas Proficiency in the design, construction , and analysis of nucleic acids
All aspects of in vitro and in vivo synthesis and manipulation of DNA: oligonucleotide-directed mutagenesis, saturation mutagenesis, QuikChange, epPCR, SOEing
Cloning technologies: ligase, recombinase, polymerase, chemical
Metabolic engineering and genomic modification: homologous recombination, conjugation, transduction, etc.
Systems biology: next generation sequencing, metabolomics, proteomics, gene expression arrays
Direct experience with high-throughput equipment, such as automated liquid handling robots, colony pickers, plate readers, FACS, etc.
Strong work ethic, demonstrated organizational and communication skills, and enjoy working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Excel under aggressive project timelinesDemonstrated track record of problem solving and innovationExcellent organizational and time management skills
Ability to follow instructions and company policies, and compliance with safety procedures
Position Requirements :
Design, create, and evaluate gene, pathway, and organism libraries to support specific product development goals
Identify workflow bottlenecks and define, develop, and implement technological solutions
Work closely with bioinformatics and robotics groups to automate high-throughput experimental design and execution
Innovative problem solving in the design and construction of synthetic DNAWork in a diverse, multi-disciplined, team environment
Communicate research progress and objectives clearly, frequently, and effectively
