Scientist, Assay Development

Job Description
Company Overview

Fate Therapeutics is an innovative biotechnology company developing novel stem cell
modulators (SCMs), biologic or small molecule compounds that guide cell fate, to treat patients with very few therapeutic options. Fate Therapeutics’ lead clinical candidate, ProHema, consists of pharmacologically-enhanced hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) designed to improve HSC support during the normal course of a stem cell transplant for the treatment of patients with hematologic malignancies. The Company is also advancing a robust pipeline of human recombinant proteins, each with novel mechanisms of action, for skeletal muscle, beta-islet cell, and post-ischemic tissue regeneration. Fate Therapeutics also applies its award-winning, proprietary, induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology to offer a highly efficient platform to recapitulate human physiology for commercial scale drug discovery and therapeutic use. With support from the U.S. Army, Fate Therapeutics is also investigating therapeutic intervention strategies to regenerate cells within the inner ear that are responsible for hearing. Fate
Therapeutics is headquartered in San Diego, CA, with a subsidiary in Ottawa, Canada.

General Summary

We are currently seeking a talented cell biologist to develop, validate and deploy a potency assay for Fate’s lead clinical program involving pharmacologically enhanced cord blood. The candidate must have extensive assay development experience and standard molecular biology techniques (nucleic acid and protein analysis) experience. This is a full-time position that will work closely with Fate’s Discovery, Clinical Operations and Regulatory groups to translate candidate mRNA and/or protein biomarkers into clinically validated potency assays.

Responsibilities

? Lead efforts to translate candidate biomarkers into clinically validated potency assays.

? Characterize the stability of the potency assay to enable shipping aliquots of the enhanced cord blood unit to a central testing facility.

? Develop kits and SOPs to perform the potency assay in a central testing facility in
addition to exploring options for rapid on-site testing.

Qualifications

? Ph.D. in Cell Biology, or Biochemistry, with emphasis on cell therapy.

? Postdoctoral experience in cell biology and assay development.

? 5 years of industrial experience developing potency assays for cellular therapies.

? History of creative science demonstrating well organized design and execution of studies.

? Experience with budgets, developing and implementing cost-saving measures.

? Flexible and cooperative spirit with strong commitment to team efforts.
