Job Description
Abide Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated Scientist to contribute to the identification and development of novel small-molecule drugs targeting the serine hydrolase enzyme family. Abide’s mission is to develop innovative medicines that target serine hydrolases, one of the largest enzyme classes in nature with validated, but mostly untapped therapeutic potential. Abide is a privately held biotechnology company that was founded by scientific research from Professor Ben Cravatt’s laboratories at The Scripps Research Institute.

The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with our biologists and medicinal chemists to discover new therapeutics. Job responsibilities include designing, validating, establishing and conducting in vitro enzyme assays for the pharmacological characterization of new small molecule drug candidates for multiple research programs. This position is also responsible for sponsoring and managing external research contracts for in vitro pharmacology. In addition, the role involves developing robust in vitro pharmacological research operating protocols and screening funnels for the identification and optimization of small molecule discovery programs in the hit-to-lead, lead identification and lead optimization stages of drug discovery. Additional responsibilities include identification and implementation of screening technologies, sample and compound management and laboratory information management systems that would have a high return-on-investment.
Experience and education requirements:
• Ph.D. degree or equivalent years of experience
• Strong knowledge of in vitro assay design, execution, automation and information management in preclinical drug discovery and development
• Knowledge of LIM systems and databases as applied to drug discovery
• 5 – 7 years of industrial experience
• Strong record of scientific achievement
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
