As a biopharmaceutical company, Alder uses its proprietary technologies to uniquely identify, develop, produce and market its own antibody therapeutics. The work being done at Alder today will potentially help those who suffer from migraine, autoimmune diseases, and inflammatory diseases.
Position Summary
Alder’s Downstream Processing group is seeking a Scientist to develop cutting-edge methods for purification of therapeutic monoclonal antibodies from Pichia pastoris fermentations.
The candidate is expected to perform hands-on lab bench experiments to develop processes using chromatography, filtration, and other DSP methods.
Practical experience with multiple chromatography modes (using affinity, ion exchange, HIC, and multi-modal resins), and the ability to interpret a wide variety of analytical results to guide process development are essential, as are having scale-up and tech transfer skills.
Experience with developing recovery operations (e.g. continuous centrifugation, depth filtration) is a strong plus, as is experience with DoE, process characterization (AOR), performance qualification and/or process validation studies.
Additional responsibilities will include managing the work of development associates, maintaining/reviewing of experimental records, and providing technical oversight at contract manufacturing organizations.

• A Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or in an allied field
• 3 years (minimum) relevant industry experience with protein purification development in a biotech setting
• The ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic, small company environment
• It will be critical that this individual be able to assist management with cGMP manufacturing plans, and to document study results in written and oral presentations
