Description
Aridis is seeking an experienced, creative research scientist to join the Pharmaceutical Sciences group. This individual will play a key role in the development of novel solid-state biopharmaceutical formulations and associated manufacturing processes. The candidate must have demonstrated ability to independently identify formulation and pharmaceutical processing science problems and solve them in an efficient and effective way.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Conceptualize, plan, and conduct formulation development activities, including excipient screening, solid-state characterization, and stability testing, for proteins and live vaccines
* Design and optimize pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, including spray drying, freeze drying, foam drying, and thin film technologies
* Develop and execute analytical methods for characterizing formulation properties and drug stability
* Provide laboratory leadership and mentoring for junior staff (may include direct reports)
* Identifies technical problems and formulates study plans to understand/resolve the issues
* Compiles, analyzes, interprets, and reports experimental results
* Thoroughly documents experimental activities in laboratory notebooks
* Maintains processing equipment and analytical instrumentation
Requirements
Education:
Ph.D. degree in either Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, or a related discipline with 0-4 years of industry experience
Experience:
* Expertise in biopharmaceutical formulation development is a must
* Experience with development of spray drying, freeze drying, and/or foam drying processes is highly desired
* Proficient in a variety of analytical techniques, including DSC, TGA, Karl Fischer titration, HPLC, cascade impaction, atomic absorption spectroscopy, ELISAs, and gel electrophoresis
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
* Working knowledge of unit operations used in the manufacture of solid-state pharmaceuticals, such as freeze drying and spray drying
* Demonstrated ability to apply scientific principles, theories, and concepts to solve complex scientific or engineering problems
* In-depth understanding of pharmaceutics, biochemistry, thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, and phase equilibria
* Thinks critically and creatively about technical challenges
* Strong mechanical aptitude
* Ability to organize and prioritize activities to meet milestones within project timelines
* Must be willing to work as part of a team and have exceptional interpersonal skills
* Excellent written and oral communication skills are required |
