Job Description | Functional Area: Molecular Diagnostics R&D
The Scientist II performs complex laboratory activities independently, including fully planning and performing individual experiments and new tasks. This position is predominantly a hands-on laboratory-based position. The Scientist II will analyze and interpret experimental results and design subsequent well-controlled experiments to optimize assay development; and conduct extensive analysis and interpretation of research and development initiatives. The Scientist II has expert knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within several relevant fields and adapts or modifies experimental methods to achieve technical objectives. The Scientist II relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, summarize data, perform statistical analyses, and prepare technical reports to support experimental conclusions; and, may be asked to perform a variety of tasks that rely on scientific creativity to complete goals. The Scientist II can explain underlying technical concepts and design follow-up experiments through the analysis of complex problems based on data.The Scientist II acts as a mentor or technical resource, by training others on more difficult technical procedures. This position requires considerable initiative and self-motivation to achieve goals, including a strong ability to schedule activities to meet time requirements and move projects forward without compromising quality.
- Plan and executes complex experiments, analyze data and designs follow up studies
- May supervise work of other scientists
- Defines tasks and plans the work required to meet project milestones
- Contributes to development of intellectual property.
- Collaborate with other R&D groups and functional areas to meet project objectives
- Writes technical reports and scientific publications/posters.
- Maintains project documentations in accordance with internal and external requirements.
- May represent company and participate in external collaborations.
Position Requirements
- BS/BA degree or equivalent and a minimum of 5-8 years related experience or MS degree and a minimum of 5+ years related experience or PhD degree and a minimum of 2+ years related experience
- Very good knowledge of molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry or related disciplines
- Very good understanding of Life Science and IVD technologies, understanding of FDA development processes
- Very good understanding of scientific methods and statistical analysis
- Ability to design both standard and factorial experiments appropriate for complex studies
- Ability to analyze data from complex experiments, derives conclusions and planning of follow up experiments
- Ability to plan and prioritize project tasks with attention to project timeline and milestones
- Very good troubleshooting and problem solving skills
- Ability to make valid technical decisions from conducted studies
- Very good technical writing skills
- Ability to prepare and give presentations both internally and externally
- Ability to support writing of invention disclosures and patent filings Strong ability to communicate with peers, upper management, and cross-functionally
