Scientist, In Vivo Studies

Job Description
Company Overview

Fate Therapeutics is an innovative biotechnology company developing novel stem cell
modulators (SCMs), biologic or small molecule compounds that guide cell fate, to treat patients with very few therapeutic options. Fate Therapeutics’ lead clinical candidate, ProHema, consists of pharmacologically-enhanced hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) designed to improve HSC support during the normal course of a stem cell transplant for the treatment of patients with hematologic malignancies. The Company is also advancing a robust pipeline of human recombinant proteins, each with novel mechanisms of action, for skeletal muscle, beta-islet cell, and post-ischemic tissue regeneration. Fate Therapeutics also applies its award-winning, proprietary, induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology to offer a highly efficient platform to recapitulate human physiology for commercial scale drug discovery and therapeutic use. With support from the U.S. Army, Fate Therapeutics is also investigating therapeutic intervention strategies to regenerate cells within the inner ear that are responsible for hearing. Fate
Therapeutics is headquartered in San Diego, CA, with a subsidiary in Ottawa, Canada.

General Summary

Fate’s Technology Group is currently seeking a talented cell biologist to use in vivo homing and engraftment models to evaluate the performance of Fate’s pharmacologically enhanced HSCs.

The candidate must have extensive experience isolating and analyzing HSCs using both in vitro(proliferation, CFU, transwell migration and flow cytometry) and in vivo (homing and
engraftment) models. Specific experience using immunocompromised mice to evaluate homing and engraftment properties of pharmacologically enhanced human cells is required. This is a full-time position that reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer.

Responsibilities

? Use novel and established in vivo models to characterize the homing and engraftment
properties of Fate’s pharmacologically HSCs.

? Develop dual cord transplantation models in NSG mice to evaluate the impacts Fate’s ex vivo modulators on cord dominance and rates of reconstitution.

? Perform necessary in vivo models to link upregulation of candidate potency assay
biomarkers to improved performance in homing and engraftment.

? Use in vivo models to characterize the mechanism of action of Fate’s current and second generation ex vivo modulators.

? Use imaging based approaches to monitor the homing and engraftment of
pharmacologically enhanced cells.

Qualifications

? Ph.D. in Cell Biology, or Biochemistry, with experience in developing in vitro and in
vivo assays relating to hematopoietic stem cells.

? Postdoctoral experience in cell biology with experience in isolating and characterizing
hematopoietic cells using both in vitro and in vivo model systems. ? History of creative science demonstrating well organized design and execution of studies.

? Experience with budgets, developing and implementing cost-saving measures.

? Flexible and cooperative spirit with strong commitment to team efforts.

? Strong oral, written, and presentation skills.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

? May require working with blood and cell lines of human and animal origin

? May require work with hazardous materials

? May require occasional evening and weekend work
